1-Series Shop Manual - Where is it?

Generally, the first thing I buy right after I take delivery of any car or motorcycle is the official factory authorized hard-copy shop manual. It's been exactly four years since I bought my 135i and I am still unable to find an official shop manual for sale anywhere.

What the heck?

Closest we can get is the Bentley Manual for a 3 series. They are very similar to our cars.

+1. Bought it when I had a 3 series, most info transfers over. Ie engine, seats, steering wheel, are identical to mention a few.

I also spent $20 on eBay for a CD containing all BMW service info from like 1988-2008, so the first gen 128/135i are in there. Confusing to navigate but useful for odd info. Real OEM can be used as well for part explosions and can help make sense of some things before you get your hands dirty.

I would really like to be able to follow exact step-by-step instructions. Just the way I'm wired. What do the BMW Service Techs use when they work on a 2011 135i? A Chilton Manual for 1989 to 1998 3-Series?

Guess I could lurk around the local dealer trying to get my hands on something official when no one is looking. Would anyone care to create a diversion for me? Maybe a small explosion in the showroom? Hee hee!

BMW uses their in house software, and will not release it as far as I'm aware. I use www.alldatadiy.com for other makes, because it gives you exactly that. I contacted them regarding BMW, and they told me BMW does not give out their service information.

The Bently manual does have step by step and TONS of literature on how things work. See image below. The Bently manual is like Chilton, on steroids (well not quite, but it's more in depth). The manual is for the E9x 3 series from 2006 - 2011, it covers the N51, N52, N53, N54, N55 engines fully, transmissions, suspension etc. Much of the maintenance will be identical, it's mostly the body panels, chassis, and other bits that differ between the E8x and E9x.

LOL I would be more than happy to do a burnout in the showroom.

I've contacted Bentley Publishing several times over the past couple of years... No plans for a 1-Series shop manual.

I really wish Bentley made a 1 series manual. That said, as others here suggested, I think the e9x bentley manual is good enough for the most part.

There's also this site: http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/ but it appears that it's not up to date...

I do appreciate 1AddictsAnonymous' kind offer of creating a showroom diversion. In reality, I will try to make do with a Bentley 3-Series Shop Manual.

Great comments from everyone. Thanks!

I purchased a disk from eBay a year or 2 ago, used it many times. Has tons of tq specs and step by steps with tool numbers and pics. Still trying to find a way to make copies of it. Pretty sure the seller stopped selling them a month or so after I got it. Someone else on here bought one and it didn't work for him. Didn't see it listed after that. It's only worked for the N54 engine. Its written on the disc 2009-2010 1 series. Tryed selecting the n55 but it didn't have any info.

Cool... It's like WebMD for a BMW... But at a cost.

You can torrent BMW TIS, that's their in-house software.

A hosted version is available here :http://tis.bmwcats.com/ but it's in russian; google translate is your friend

That site doesn't even cover the E82 and it's no more up to date than http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/

We have the Haynes workshop manual over here in the UK for the 1 series. It does not cover the 6 cylinder engines or the 123d though!

Combine that with an E90-E93 Bentley and maybe you'd have the whole car?
