I clean my windshield in pretty much the same way as he does but I guess that also means I'm as OCD as he says he is!

One thing: I'd use a scraper with a plastic razor blade instead of a steel one.

I've used 0000 steel wool with glass cleaner as lubricant to polish the windshield before applying Aquapel (or Rain-x) too. Years ago I had overspray on my windshield after I had to have my bumper repainted. I've found it works really well.

Hmm, I'd be a bit leery to use steel wool: loose fibers would get all over the place, even with a lubricant.

One thing that I was worried about also! How unsafe is it to use a steel blade though? Will I risk ruining my windshield?

I think a steel blade could possibly scratch the glass... I wouldn't risk it.

I used the steel blade last night. Worked just fine. I applied light pressure (almost just the weight of the blade and a finger weight) and it did not at all scratch the windshield. I felt a lot of surface contaminants get scraped off, which is nice. After claying the windshield, it felt smoother than any other panel on my car. I didn't polish because I don't have a glass polish, but I applied a hydrophobic layer and its great! Crystal clear. I think the polish will make it even better once I get one!
