Official caliper bolt torque is 68 or 70, can't remember which one.

Spring is in the air and so are track days coming up. You should have no trouble finding someone who needs one soon.

Hey guys so I consider myself still a novice when it comes to working on cars but I did change my track pads to OEM after a recent track weekend.

I removed the 2 big bolts behind the caliper which I think someone said it was pictures as the #2 bolt in the diagram.

Is there a reason why people don't do it the way BMW wanted us to do it? I found that once you turn the rotor with your hands after the wheels are off the two bolts in the back are very easy to get to and the caliper comes off no problem for you to be able to get the pads easily after that.

My gosh. I never spotted this thread before starting my own brake rotor/pad DIY. I managed to break the caliper bolt mentioned. I actually successfully did my front left pad and rotor. I mind slipped and torqued the bolt the wrong way when I was doing the front right until the bolt just snapped.

I went to my shop for help. My mechanic friend/shop owner is actually able to source a 12.9 grade bolt same day. It is pretty much exactly the same as the stock bolt aside from being about 1mm shorter. I paid him big bucks for him to extract the broken bolt, and just do the rest of the pad changes anyways.

What he told me is he actually never touch the caliper allen hex bolts when he's doing cars with similar caliper designs/BBKs, etc. He claimes to always use the back 2 bolt when removing calipers like this. The reason why it's difficult in accessing the rear 2 bolts is usually because we are not able to jack the car as high at home, hence not able to put in a long wrench from the bottom to those back bolts. With a long wrench, he claims it's very easy to get the back bolts loose and back-on.

That said, I am wondering if the bolts you guys ended up ordering is exactly the same length as the stock bolts. If that's the case I might want to order a set. 1/2mm shorter is a little unconfortable in my mind. And I might need to access those bolts again if I install some sort of brake adaptor down the road, so some spares would offer me some comfort. Are the sets of bolts still available? Thanks!

I almost forgot about this. Chris, you're doing SP Main with SCCA on 9/15, right? I'll see you there.

I'll have to look around to see where I put the box of these, but I should still have a couple sets around.

Gary I haven't decided on that scca event, but I'm moving 20 minutes away from summit in the next week.

Shoot me a PM with the cost of a set of 4 shipped to zip 92602, as well as your PayPal.
With the amount I fiddle with the pads and rotors, I know I'm on borrowed time. Actualy just rounded one of the pad guide pins. Metal went soft on me. Fortunately, those are readily available and cheap enough.
