DCT rumours for 1series surface again
There you go again:biggrin: Edmunds say that Dual clutch transmission will be an option on the 1 series. I am very excited but I don't believe it:frown:

BMW is certainly developing a mass-production dual-clutch gearbox but I highly doubt it will make it into this generation 1er.

I've really been thinking hard about getting an A/T so my wife can drive my car, but I think the 6 Speed manual is what I will end up with regardless. Downshifting the auto to me just isnt the same.

Seriously, though, it is possible to learn how to drive a stick so all isnt lost if you do get a stick.

Interesting that Edmunds refers to the cabrio as a 2009 model, and it is being introduced at the samt time as the 128i and 135i. Another clue that they all will be 2009 MY?

I'm sure they'll have a "regular" version of DCT for the regular cars. It'll be interesting if they put the M-DCT in the 135, since it has a lot of other Motorsport stuff on it already.

DCT option? I wish. I wanted my next car to have a dual-clutch tranny. Looks like BMW wont be able to do it in time. I like the 1-series but I may end up getting a mitsubishi Evo 10.

LOL Well I'm not booting the wife over a tranny. I'm just trying to me a nice guy. She doesn't want to learn, so thats not a bad thing. She cant drive my current car because of this, and thats not a bad thing either IMO.

I still don't even know if I would want a DCT vs a manual clutch. Something about heel and toe'ing into corners and just rev matching on downshifts to red lights.

I've been thinking about it, but I think I'd miss the involvement you describe. There's nothing like that feeling

My thoughts exactly... There is a different feel and connection that would be absent w/ a DCT. At the same time i respect the performance that it has to offer.

I will. I told her what I wrote. LOL She knows its got to be a stick to be a sports car feel to me. I love our x3 in the a/t. I've tried to think about having the a/t in the 1er while I'm driving the x3. But its the wear point advantage of a clutch that is the deciding factor, more than anything else. I tend to be a bit hard on a/t's myself. So now I drive autos diff than I did in the past, just to save the gear box in the long run.

Being able to put the car in full auto mode is a big plus when you're in traffic or the missus needs to drive because I'm too drunk haha. |

IMO I doubt we will see a DCT on the 2008 1 series...2009, or ever.
Let's face it, who would buy the new M3 if you could get a 135i with a DCT, and a 306hp twin turbo engine for approx $35k? This is the same argument against the M1.

I'm sure the DCT was be a $$$ option not a standard feature. Driving the price much higher than $35k. Its nice to have it available for those who do want it.

I really want a Manual but I've driven in my GF's car (VW GLI with the DSG tranny) and it's just nice when you're stuck in traffic and when you're on the track it shifts insanely fast. A DCT would be a nice option.
So I would consider DCT, but I think I'll get a Manual again I drove a 535i with an Auto and I didn't like it too much. |
