1 series hatch - s65 v8

just a few sneaky photos of this build.

although we had the engine running within a few days, the objective was always an absolute 100% electronically error free setup, we think we have succeeded.

Doner - sourced from a 03/2012 comp edition - 48,000 odd kms

The number of differences between an m3 and everything else e9x are massive. From the obviously things like complete drive line, suspension, brakes to completely different fuel system, brake line routing, vacuum system and a huge list of others.

AIM: Create the best of everything with no expense spared, fully engineered. 100% electronically perfect with OEM BMW only equipment as though bmw themselves would have.

The Motor/Drive: the s65 may not be without its issues, however anyway you spin it, its another gravy when compared to anything before it. Drop another 200+ KG, the bars raised again. The torque potential may not be that of a worked n54/55 however the high revolution concept coupled with a noise turbo cars could only dream about well and truly makes up plus some.... the first drive was very much wow...

The real challenge here is bmw's electronics as usual. When you consider how much they change year to year on the same car, now think 2 completely different cars, almost 7 years apart We love it...

Currently waiting for parts. Cic pro, comfort access and individual audio to come, plus a few other nice surprises were throwing in for a fantastic customer.

Looking for other customers interested in:
Please pm contact phone details to arrange time to discuss.

- any 1 and 3 series (e8x and e9x) - xDrive conversion - RnD work in progress. We did the worlds first r34 gtr-> r35 conversions completed a few years ago now, so were pretty confident here. Other model xDrives to follow.
- s55 dct & MT -> anything
- s63 AT -> anything (possibly MT without xDrive- not tried yet)
- s85 smg -> dct or MT -> anything
- zf8 -> any 1 and 3 series e8/9x - not done - work in progress
- s85 smg -> dct -> already done a few years back
- s85 smg -> 6mt
- e46 m3 smg or MT -> dct -> RnD work in progress - really excited about this setup
- m54 custom turbo setup -> built and being road tested, no numbers yet but ridiculous power on very low boost.
- any other electronic retrofit we have not yet done. special deals available on projects we have not yet completed.

OEM only - Not interested in aftermarket parts, computers or controllers for anything at this stage.

Hey Pete,

We've not done one yet, just thinking out aloud if your n55 it should be straight forward enough, if your n54 harder but doable I'm sure.

Would you consider s55?

I would like to see an s55 1 series. We have a whole setup available.

B58 is a lovely donk and less complicated. My pick would be that from coming from a N55.

S55 would be also very cool (and more powerful) but the crank hub issue is something that many would like to avoid. No clue on if BMW have fixed this issue on newer revisions or if there is a good aftermarket fix.

@pete - let's do this b58.

Let me clear some project out and hit me up when your ready.

Might run a deal for you, if I come across anything il let you know. I already have pretty intimate knowledge of FEM so I won't say it's an absolute cert, buy I can't think of an issue

Maybe you can put a nice set of wheels towards the cost

Loving this!!

Out of curiosity, what’s the rough cost for the following options:

S65 into 1M
1) you supply everything (drive in drive out)
2) I supply engine and gearbox only
3) I supply whole e9x m3 as donor car

Thank you!

haha. another E82 1M soon to bite the dust?

but yeah. be curious what the total cost is. been toying with the idea of an S65 in my 130i ever since I saw Marco's build on Drive.

Shame the engine came off a fire orange M3. 1 of 25 in Oz I believe.

Mad, absolutely someone has to do it and do the shit properly. XDrive, sit tight.

Cars done, we had it and the m3 v10 at the bmw club day on the weekend along with one of the n54 single turbo builds.

Just waiting on parts now, m3 v8 cowls other body parts and etc. Elecyronically and mechanically 100%. plus still have cic, comfort access and individual audio to do. There will certainly be video and etc later.

Re cost, it's hard to say. This is not a bodgy build. IMHO it's impossible to do this without a whole car as there are 2 many parts needed. Could you slap the motor in, not worry about a v
cluster, servotronic, mdm, dsc, deleter vac and sap pumps, not upgrade brakes, suspension, heat shields, relocate all brake lines, forget error codes alltpgether, somehow use the fuel system from non m3, probably can be done, but the objective of this project was 100% as if bm had done it. Rrp costs, circa 35k. Bit of coin but fuck me, what a car.... perspective if you ask me. You certainly couldnt buy something equivalent for that money.

@raj

Man, put your 1m stuff on the shelf and send me that thing. The 1m can always be returned to stock if you choose 1 day. With this 1 series, we even built an adapter harness which basically means it unplug and you go back to stock it you choose. The body side is not touched butchered or cut in any way.

Surely someone is keen on 1m dct ???

I do know 1 guy on here ....

Saw the video. Incredible work! It won't be too long before more prospective Supra/R32 GTR/etc buyers are priced out of that market and start playing with E/F chassis BMW's.

Is there space for a turbo or SC in the current engine bay?
