Dont forget the E46 M3 still was on sale alongside the E90/92.

This is fantastic news, if it is real. I believe it, but thats only because BMW has come out with higher performance versions of the M3 a year before the model change before.

And those pictures up there make me smile. I really want this car.

I think this is wrong in the quoted report and the M-Variant won't have the same e-diff. It's either using the mechanical LSD from the M3 (like Mapezzul suggests) or even the torque vectoring diff (the report might allude to this as it's electronically controlled).

An M1 should be made light and nimble they should not concentrate on high easy to get turbo power figures. But concentrate on an awesome drive like the M3 CSL is. There are more cars with more hp but not so manny cars which are a dream driving corners and steer the car on throttle.
The perfect car for your needs does exist already, the M3 GTS.

There will be no more high revving motors (after the GTS which was really built b/c of the ALMS GT2 car), get over it. It is not feasible for a high revving naturally aspirated motor to get good mpg and emissions at THIS PRICE POINT. People make it sound like ///M is some exotic, it is not- exotics are cars the middle class can only dream of buying because of cost. Ferrari is a whole different level.

When Ferrari builds a high revving naturally aspirated motor that turns in good EPA numbers then we may think BMW could. Though only if it reached some sort of scale- When you sell less than 1000 cars a month (///M) and have a pricepoint that is not sky high there is only so much you can do.

Until then, the new ///M turbos are fantastic and have no characteristics of a turbo, go drive one- the real Jeremy Clarkson even said the turbo V8 is perfect.

People just need to realize that things are done for a reason even though we might not immediately approve. I would even say that less than 5% of people have ever driven an ///M let alone a turbo version.

I used to have an E46 M3 coupe and currently drive a Z4 M Coupe and I would definitely be interested in a ///M 1 Series.

Yes i know south It is on order but the change is very little if you get one only 99 pieces and the price is almost 2 times an new M3.

I would love a smaller less big ///M but with high rev 6 i buy that next to the GTS if it will arrive with such engine.

I don't see this M1 having only 15hp more than the upcoming 335iS, Z4iS and its own 135iS . Neither I see this M1 costing less than $47000 with CF roof, new fenders and LSD, unless there's some cheapo bits on it.

This M1 is too close for comfort to the M3 in the upper end pricewise and to those iS models in the lower end powerwise.

What are you trying to say? You do realize that BMW's are priced by class right? The price difference between a 135i and 535i is about $20,000.

Good stuff! BMW continues to keep things fresh & exciting for a price under $400k. The next gen 1 series is already in testing & rolling around in Germany in camo. An M model on the current chassis would be suprising indeed.

BMW always underrates their cars for insurance..
I bet 10 years ago you were saying: If I get a car with 200hp, it will be plenty..
It's not all about hp, it's about balance.. 350 will be plenty for 99.9% of us.
and since it will be turbo'ed - I am sure aftermarket will fill your desire to mod.

I'm not thrilled about the power numbers either, at least not when you consider the asking price. Sure the car can be tuned, but at the expense of warranty, and part of the reason for buying an expensive car is so you have something fast and the peace of mind that goes with it being a factory stock engine.

At 400Hp, I'd be satisfied with it, and I'd leave it alone, at least during the warranty period. At 350Hp there's just too many other cars out there that are as fast or faster for a lot less money.

Not getting too hyped until I see something released from BMW itself. That "artist's rendering" was done in 2007, or it looks identical to one's posted here back then.

Also, I sincerely hope that 350hp is a wild guess. Any stock N54 dynos at 320 to the crank. A very safe $200 add-on will best 350hp. (yeah I know it is only one piece of an intricate puzzle, but still. I'm looking at a huge grain of salt with that "announcement")

10 years ago I was driving a superchaged Trans Am that was making about 400Hp, so no, I wasn't saying 200Hp would be plenty.

The whole point of paying that much money for a car is so that I don't have to tune it and void the warranty. We've all seen how aggressive BMW has been on detecting tunes on the current engines....what do you think they're going to do on something like this?

Besides that, for that same money there are other companies that will give me the power I'm looking for, so why turn to the aftermarket?

^ The timing is definitely interesting.

It makes me wonder when the F20 based M's could be released.

It will slot into the range beneath the M3 coupé, and should cost around £38,000, £8000 more than the 135i Coupé M Sport. That means it will compete directly with Audi’s forthcoming RS3.

This is about $54,500 USD.

So we'll likely not see it in the US until late 2011 or early 2012? Hmmm... maybe I'll have to get that 135 SuperSports version in the meantime. I'm an early 2008 owner, so I may not be able to hold off until 2012.

I don't see what is the relationship of your comment with mine. I'm not even talking about any 5 Series, much less a 535i.

My post was just to show what the price would be in USD based on the estimate in the article.

Since you seem to have a source for a 'definite price' please provide the link or source.

An increase of £8000 to a £38,000 car is roughly 21%. so add 21% to the U.S. price of $36,000 and you come to roughly $44,000.

just a rough estimate but that seems a lot more reasonable than $54,000 imo.

It would slate in right before the E92 335 if it were to come.

As I have said before- this may not make it to the US, the GTS is not here and this would require new crash testing, new emissions etc... let's just hope that it comes but that announcement won't be official for sometime.
