Mine does the same thing and it is not braking. It mainly does it when its cold. I cant remember if it is left or right, but it seems like something needs lube.

Mine is an odd sound, not so much a squeak and more of mechanical rubbing. Not sure how to explain it, but it does have something to do with the actual turning of the steering wheel. I can make it do it while stopped on a cold morning, so no tire rubbing or anything like that.

when i installed my dp's i bent a heat shield so i could stick an extension up there. I forgot to bend it back, and it was rubbing on the boot for the tie rod. it wasnt a squeaking noise, sounded more like a dry bearing.
.02 something to look into. |

I have it too, never paid any attention to it until this thread..........
IMO it`s a kind of friction in the steeringwheel, only when slow driving or parking..... The question is; is something wrong? |

There is a thread in the German 1M Forum regarding the rubbing. BMW already opened a PUMA case and some people already have some parts of the front fender liner replaced. The last thing I read was that screws holding the fender liner / vents in the fender liner can loosen and when re-tightening them the rubbing is gone.

Yep, mine makes the same noise when turning right on almost full lock. Think I'll get this looked at for peace of mind.

Mine does it intermittently.
-Definitely inside the steering column area. -Started when it got cold. -Sounds like a hookers cot on a Friday night. It sounds like we all have the same issue, very annoying! It went away when I drove to Florida (75 degrees) and came back when I returned home (28 degrees) a few weeks ago.

Never had it but it may just confirm the problem if the lower temperature is the trigger cause I got the car in Southern Hemisphere's spring to summer. Smells like some kind of a hydraulic problem to me. Hope u guys will figure it out or BMW will tell us what it is.

Just a quick me too. On full lock, while turning, when cold. Sound is a fluttery creak. Not easy to explain in words. First noticed a couple of months back. Temperature around 10 degrees. Definitely sounds to be coming somewhere from the steering column. Andy.

+1. Same here. I'm not too worried about it yet. See if it goes away in warmer weather or if it progresses.
