It does.

But tell him you don't believe him and want him to prove it to you on a test drive.

But where in the US can you go 140 mph (governor limited) or even 155 mph unlimited? Unless you plan to drive on a track or the Autobahn.

That might be true since with sport pack the MY06 governor for the 330 is 155mph and the power of the 325 will allow a top speed of about 155mph.

So technically, there´s no need for a governor

I still believe that the "840 unlimited top speed" is a translation (German --> English) gaff that refers to removing the 130 mph limit. But not the 155 mph limiter.

I have 1100 miles on mine, US Spec 325i. I took it out for a high speed run to see what it could get to. It stuck firmly at 135mph on the autobahn even with a slight downhill at approx 5500rpms it did not gain speed. I could feel it trying to back off on the gas. Very stable at speed, impressive.

I agree, the E90 is very stable at speed. I took my 330i ZSP to 130Mph for a quick stint on a local interstate when I had a good break between cars. The car was amazingly stable and predictable at 120-130mph. Only stayed at 130 for about 2 seconds. Doing double the speed limit is a little risky and I was starting to catch up with all the cars in front of me.

That seems a little dangerous don't you think, taking a picture of your speedometer while going 150 mph.

The options list on my 330i Sport lists the same "unlimited top speed". However, I learned in physics class that EVERYTHING has a top speed (i.e. the speed of light). So BMW's claim strikes me as bogus.

Yeah, it means the car never stops accelerating....
That's just a bad translation from German!
All it means is that the governor has been removed.
This feature has ALREADY been made available on Mercedes-Benz AMG cars for some time.

What amazes me about that picture is that 150mph appears to be slow for the AutoBahn! I wanna live in Germany now.

CHECK OUT MPG GAUGE ! LOL

I never got that high on my ED trip last weekend, but I went to about 125 mph for a few seconds a few times. Fuel consumption at that speed is ridiculously high. Cost of gas in Europe hovering around $6 /gallon, by the way.
Probably why most people in Germany drive diesels; and rarely go above 100 mph, which is the speed most cars have the best price/performance ratio.

The car felt great at that speed very stable and calm. The steering response was very smooth. I drove it above 135 mph for at least an hour on that trip. Played around with a SL 500, who eventually let em go and also a 993 porsche who was being a little more of an a!!. But the 5th gear acceleration is killer on the Autobahn take that up to 6000 rpm and other people think thats all you got then shift into 6th and blow them away......

Yes, it's limited to the same speed as the standard 330i. The limit has alot to do with the limit of the tires that come standard on the car. As for removing it, I'm not sure if you can and even why you would unless you are putting on high performance (read high speed rated) tires.

Non-ZSP E90s are limited at 130 mph, or about 135 indicated on the speedo.
ZSP E-90s have the standard max limiter at 155 mph, or about 162 on the speedo.
