1M feels more agile.
E46 is a bigger/heavier car.

Also, the engineering on the 1M feels more playful and direct.
Add in the power and it more than lives up to the hype, IMO.

I would also add there is more low end Torque and that makes it feel faster as well.

I owned an E46 M3 for 5 years before moving to the 1M, and I agree that the 1M is much better for daily driving given the low end torque. However, the M3 high revving engine was special when pushed to the limit. Both are great in their own right and you can't go wrong either way. That being said, I don't think I'll ever get rid of my 1M.

1M all day long for me.

I like the E46 M3 but don't like the way it sounds and looks wise I like the more bold and angry looks of the 1M. The 1M is also way more fun IMO. Have driven several E46 M3s over the years.

The only M3 that really gets my attention is the E30 M3.

I have both. They feel very different in terms of power delivery, clutch and shifter feel, and steering. The M3 really comes alive when you wring its neck out a bit. Puttering around town is not its forte.

The M3 is a more classic, timeless design. The 1M is what I call ugly-cute, like a French bulldog. But it's a torque monster that wants to play the moment you fire it up.

I love them both!
