1500kg is a heavy bitch for such a small car.

Like pointed out before weight is the biggest enemy and fun killer. I have sold my E90 M3 because of it.

well, it's comparing 3373lbs to 3705lbs.

both are heavy for what they are --but i'd appreciate an m3 with more torque if it's going to be that heavy of a car.

i can appreciate all of the high tech features of its engine, but i still don't appreciate (and i've driven the 7speeder) that softness off of the line. that works when you're in a boxster or cayman or even 911 but those only weigh 3000 or so lbs.

I think the new M1 will be more in line with what the M3 was but not what the M3 is. Given what's been said about the current M3 both on the track and off, the M1 may not be a better car than the M3

Article dated April 2010.

Would be awesome if it were true and would solve the problem with the m1 being faster than the m3. Seems like a win/win for everyone and would be better than holding the m1 back ala cayman vs 911. Too bad its probably not true

Now that would restore my faith in ///M.......that would be sick. Like a 3.0 high revving inline-6. Hell, take the 3.2 S54, and re-tune her and throw in vanos, and I bet you get better gas mileage and more power than the e46 //M got, enough to avoid gas guzzler tax and with the new stiffer chasis and more modern suspension, well, I bet it would just be a sick ///M and I would cancel my order for the e92.

That would be sick.........we can only dream.....

Cheers,

It will not be highly tunable unless you are ready to chuck your warranty right out the window. Don't underestimate BMWs knowledge and understanding of the tuning world and their ability to know EXACTLY what you have done to a car.

Just something to consider, having nothing to do with the ///M1 vs. ///M3 discussion.

Keep in mind that if BMW elect to give the M1 a similar Power to weight ratio to the current M3, the former is still likely to outsprint the latter, purely based on torque production of a 3.0FI in comparison to the 4.0 NA.

The current 300hp N54 in a 135i already slighty "outtorques" the current M3, but loses on overall power to weight.
