Rock chips on wheels

I am probably not the only guy that has had this happen, but I have noticed that the light alloy wheels on my BM's rock chip very easily. Have had it happen to my 128 and now my 135 has a pretty decent sized one right on the lip. Drives me crazy cause I take such care to try and prevent them ( 3M on entire front of the car, avoid gravel roads when I can, etc.) and somehow they still find places to hit and cause damage.
