How can I remove light swirl marks and scratches?
I've got a 2008 Montego blue 135i.
It's fairly clean, with no major swirling or scratching, but there are light swirl marks in areas, and a few other blemishes. I'm going to clay it Saturday, followed with Zaino ZFX and Z5, but I'm curious - is there a way to easily remove light swirling? I have a cheapo autozone random orbit polisher, but I've never gotten good results using it. The car is clean enough that I don't want to end up doing more bad then good. Any suggestions or how-tos? |

I would recommend purchasing a good polisher. I use the Flex 3401. Pick up a couple good pads, for you, I would get Lake Country 6.5 white pads with Menzerna PO106FA. This will easily remove your light swirls.
I use to be a Zaino Fan, but now I use Blackfire sealant. You might want to give blackfire a try. All these products I purchase from detailedimage.com.

You'll need to polish the paint. In general if it's done by hand I'll apply a one step product like theMeguiar's Ultra Finishing Polish M205. If you have a buffer or if you are interested in one a two step process is usually worth while. It will help remove more of the swirls and oxidation so you can get that deep shine back. The DI Packages PC 7424XP with M105, M205 and 5.5" padsis a great package deal that includes the buffer, pads and polishes you need for this process. The Porter Cable 7424 XP buffer included is very safe and easy to use. We have a great article showing how the M105 and M205 work with this buffer:
