Why Android???

With all the difficulties getting Joying/Dynavin/etc. head units installed/operating correctly, why not go with established manufacturers? Is the cost savings and additional features really worth the ass pain and reduction in sound quality?

Which "established manufacturers" do have proper systems for the E8x to compare them?

Kenwood/Alpine/Sony/Pioneer to name a few. I have an Alpine that worked out of the box and it sounds fantastic.

You have a model name ?

so you meant that Doubledin Units ?
i guess:
* Most do only have a 7" Display, while the others do have 9" or 10.25".
* are there good frames available for our cars at all from them ?
* Price is also a point, they cost two / three times of the other Indash variants do cost and also more expensive than the ondash.
* Functions are limited to "legal" stuff, lots of users want to use apps that are not allowed while driving (netflix, radar apps, fuel stations, ect)
* some car specific functions, like Rear camera,PDC, idrive like knob ect.

Regarding the sound, not all users are Audiophile, so the quality is not that important, also on some units you can attach USB soundcards to get better quality sound.

For sure Android is always some tinkering, basictly the price is the main argument, otherwhise you also could also retrofit NBT-EVO whichs is way more expensive.

I get it. More bang for the buck. But, with the money saved on the equipment, perhaps letting a pro installer do the setup/config after hooking it up may make for a less frustrating experience (until the next OS update at least).

Thats always a question of your personal demands, but basicly you can`t have all at the same time.

A gif from programmers does explain it very well

What difficulties? I put an Android head unit in my Volvo V70 and it was no harder than any other head unit swap in a car. And that car has the same issues around canbus integration and whatnot as a BMW.

Having been installing head units in cars for 35 years now ( a LOT of head units and a LOT of cars), I am probably better at it than most of the "pros". I certainly have seen plenty of expensively shoddy work by various "pro" shops.

This is not rocket science. The hardest part was programming the steering wheel controls for my Volvo, and that was only hard because the interface wasn't obvious as to what you had to do.
