Hey Tit, welcome aboard mate. I don't visit here very often though. Having much more fun with my 20 year old MX-5!

Thanks! Yeah - if only we had stacks of dollars and space, I'm sure there'd be a track-prepped MX5 in my garage too...

Bah who needs stacks of dollars and space? Around $5k for a stock dunger and park it on the road! I do about 15 supersprints/trackdays each year and the entire 2010 season costs me around $10k (entry fees, rego, tyres, fuel, maintenance ... the works), including two trips to Phillip Island and a major service (timing belt & water pump). About $7k alone went into the track fees, fuel and tyres. It's very cheap motorsport.

I've been having this discussion with a few mates here in Canberra. We've been passively talking about a syndicate or something like that. It's sort of difficult to get numbers out of anyone, so it's sort of nice to see your post! $10k is certainly achievable....do you have any sponsorship?
Of course, I was leaning towards an R53, but I suspect an MX5 is a lot more reliable and, of course, RWD.... Do you have a trailer / plan if you bend it or it breaks? I don't have anything that can tow (though I've seen a track-prepped 135 on here that tows it's own gear to the track...)... Quote:

Sorry for the slow reply ... like I said, I don't visit often.
Be careful with getting into a syndicate. It's the sort of situation that works well until something bad happens, and then best mates suddenly become worst enemies. Seen it happen too many times. And if you're only talking ~$5k to get started, why bother with a syndicate? Yes, the full year costs me around $10k for absolutely everything. It all comes out of my pocket - no sponsorship (are you offering? ). Doing 15 supersprints / club trackdays is a very busy schedule to keep up with. You don't have much on during the summer because it's too damn hot, and during the cooler months you've often got at least two trackdays per month happening. Sometimes two per weekend! It's awesome. I always drive to/from the track which surprises a lot of people. But my little NA6 has been bullet-proof over three years of abuse. There's something to be said for a low-powered car - it's easy on brakes and tyres. Laptimes might not be lightning fast but that just encourages you to learn how to drive it fast - I'm down to 1:14.98 at Wakefield and 1:59.29 at Eastern Creek ... with only 71rwkW in a stock car! If something goes wrong and I bin the car, I'll leave it and catch a ride home with someone - come back next day with a hired trailer to pick it up. There are often mates there with trailers too who are only too willing to help out. Save the R53 for the road. You'll be too scared of what it will cost to fix anything you break, so you won't drive it hard on the track. There's much to be said for getting a cheap naturally-aspirated track car. Based on what I've seen at supersprints I'd recommend anything from this list: MX-5 (obviously), Civic VTi-R or CRX Del Sol, Corolla SX, Clubman (Lotus 7 replica).

Modding the 1'ers going slow 'cause I'm shoving a bunch of stuff into the mini...
Recaros, JCW Steering Wheel... These will be joined by a Whiteline rear-sway, eibach camber plates and H-Sport rear lower control-arms... Downpipe, tune, intake and wheels should wrap up the mini project... I'm using up all of my self-control not buying stuff for the 1'er (and failing).....please stop posting nice things to buy in the for sale section....it's going to get me into trouble with the missus….and RaihaX....stop-it!! |

Lol Just read this talking abt a premium car :P Oh well things do happen and thankfully it's still under warranty.
A big change from a 123d to a 135i. But 123D goes like a bullet once it's been chipped up. |

Hi kaitan...
Yeah - I don't doubt the 123d is a great car. It was circumstances and oppourtunity that compelled me towards the 135i. I miss some of the boxes I ticked on the diesel - like the le mans blue and comfort access....but overall I'm happy with my decision.... |

I guess the diesel is not a refine compared to the petrol. But diesel have come a long way from the oldern diesel engines Much more powerful yet economical. |
