For a split second I thought "Oh no, not another one"

Just saw it in the blink of an eye while zooming by: "Was that a VO 1M with an issue ?".

So I returned to stop by for a closer look: no 1M but still sad to see.

Spotted today in Brussels (Hungarian license plate). No-one was around.

I doubt it was rear ended. Looks more like it drove itself into a rather large and solid pole!

At second glance: must have been a violent impact against a substantial object (tree, pole, etc.). Maybe oversteer during tracking at Spa-Francorchamps ?

Any ideas why the airbags didn't inflate ?

For sure. Had to be a pole, its a VERY clean impact! Thats a 128 right?

If i was speeding by i would've thought M for sure! lol

Call me crazy but I believe its plausible that for that type of impact the airbag sensors might not be set off...

Oh my. We may need to pull your " car guy" card for that. Please research srs airbag systems. There will be a quiz tomorrow to see if we can remove the dunce cap and let you out of the corner.

Airbags are designed to deploy due to an impending force/energy to that area of the vehicle.

If there were REAR airbags on this vehicle, then they would have deployed. ;-).

You might get anal about "rear side collision" but the pictures of the crashed 1er show an impact at the rear corner. Probably you consider that curtain shield airbags (if any) would have deployed if the part near the fuel filler cap would have been hit.

Glad you did some research..

let's check the photos again. That's a REAR impact. Not a side impact. Is the impact towards one side in the rear? Yes... but the actual POINT of IMPACT is on the REAR. Note the rear glass is broken and the quarter glass is intact. The photos in the diagram you supplied are of a vehicle impacting the side, and/or side rear (quarter panel area) area of the vehicle for side impact protection are quite accurate.
