Right cornering light malfunction then left cornering light?

Started my car yesterday and it told me "right cornering light malfunction. Not sure which right it's referring to however I checked both cornering lights and they are both functioning. Wondering if it has anything to do with the LUX AE's but I've had them for the last 3 years and no issues. I had a couple issues previously where the seal on the cover collapsed and moisture entered the headlight and caused the adaptive headlight module to short...

I just had the dealer fix this same issue. Ive had a persistent light bulb error for about 4-5 months now. Dealer finally figured out it was the right cornering light even though it always lit up fine this whole time. I'm guessing it was a faulty bulb ground/connection or something. Well the bad news was that CPO warranty doesn't cover it, and the dealer charged $70 just for the bulb... then another $220 to 'program' it!! Program a damn light bulb?! Freaking ridiculous but I really wanted the gonging light bulb error to just go away. Good luck, maybe you wont get ripped off by your dealer like I did.

It's weird when I first get the error it says "Right cornering light malfunction!" then when I click on it in my iDrive it says "Left cornering light"???

$70 for ONE BULB and $220 to program it? Why does a light bulb need to be programmed???

That's what I wanted to know same thing as to why our batteries need to be programed after replacement as well.

When the SA was telling me how much it was i told him to forget, I can change a light bulb by my damn self! But he convinced me it wasn't a straight forward or easy replacement to DIY and I would still need to get the new bulb programed to get the error to go away.

I'm hoping he wasn't BSing me into blowing $220...

Any filament bulb will often fail by the filament breaking. For a while the filament will be flopping around attached at only one end. Then the filament will flop around, touch the other contact again and melt itself back on. Often happens with brake or turn signal bulbs. Stops working, bang the lens, comes back on.......for a little while. Won't be long before it burns out completely. And since the resistance will be different after this happens, it can trigger a failed code, even though it is currently working.

Just replace both lights, the bulbs are cheap. Like $10 cheap.

Do you know where I can get the bulbs from? Someone said the dealer charged $70 for the bulbs and $220 the program them! Also how do you get in there to change them? I don't think it's the same way as changing the AE's is it?

There is a small cover on the top of the headlight you have to remove, it is a bit tricky. Search here and you will find instructions.

I believe they are just a standard H3 bulb, not sure on wattage, check the owners manual, it should say. If it calls for a 35 watt bulb, search for motorcycle H3 bulbs. May be a good idea to get one that is whiter while you are doing it.

You can even get a 35W PIAA H3 bulb for only $8.

Hmm, may be time to upgrade my own cornering lights........

Cool, thank you for checking.

May get these then. They are also a "powersports" bulb, which should be better vibration resistance?!?!?

$36 for the pair.

Maybe they were just clearing the fault code and not actually "coding"?

I think I may just stick with the OEM bulbs seems like a lot of people who change these ones they burn out after 2-3 months

I picked these up: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291395785480...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They are super cheap. So if they burn out no big deal. Ive only had them in the car a few months and no issues. I hardly ever have my headlights on though so they dont get used much.

The "white" bulbs match the HID's more is why I got them.

Just a quick update: changed the H3 bulbs for the corners lights and the error went away. i just decided to go with the OEM bulbs as I read on a lot of different forums that aftermarket bulbs burn out way too quickly and I just didn't want the hassle. $21+tax per bulb from BMW though
