How to retrofit a Rain Light Sensor (RLS)?

Hey guys, Has anyone out there retrofitted a RLS to their car?
I can handle the coding aspect of it, but was after some info on actually installing it?

How do you bond it to the glass? How is it wired?

I know i'll need a new headlight switch, i've already got a new steering switch unit from a car that had a rain sensor (the bit with the wiper/indicator stalks).

As far as i know, i don't have a comfort windshield, just the normal one so i hope i don't have to change it.

I've seen guides for the e46 but nothing on the e8x or e9x...

Probably not what you want to hear, but I wouldn't bother. I wish I had full manual controls instead of the sensor and the automatic wipe. It doesn't work very well.

Really? I've read that people have had problems with it, but usually after a windscreen has been replaced or something.

If i may ask - what exactly don't you like about it? Is it a sensitivity issue where wipers take too long/not long enough to activate? - i thought you could program sensitivity too.

Anyway im mostly doing it for the light sensor aspect - wanted the auto headlights

It's too sensitive and not sensitive enough at the same time. Just the nature of what it is. It can go from not wiping enough with steady rain one second, to wiping like a maniac the next. It likes to get stuck in the hyper speed mode too. The sensitivity switch on the stalk doesn't seem to do much, but can help. It's done this from day one for me.

Not that it doesn't work, it does. It's just finicky.

Hmm ok that's interesting thanks. Have you considered just removing the auto wipers from your VO and reprogramming the car? that should completely disable the auto wipers and replace with the traditional timed wipers (i think)
