Calibrating your Torque Wrench DIY
Hello,
If you think your torque wrench is out of tune or would like to check it... Here's how. Procedure is good for all, but adjustment is slightly different depending on the different models and brand... |

Somewhere I saw a diy where you use a beam torque wrench to check the calibration on a clicker style. (beam wrenches are considered more accurate & stable). Anyone know how to do this?

Good point - scale can be off. If you're worried about the scale being off, you can use a measured amount of water in a light plastic jug.

I use inexpensive Harbor Freight torque wrenches for situations where maybe I could just use experience to get the right torque (like oil drain plugs). So I don't worry about their accuracy. I've seen both good and bad test reports on them. If I ever rebuild an engine again, or do something else where I want to be sure of the torque, I will get one of these:
https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-digital-torque-adapter-63917.html?cid=paid_google_pla_main_newproducts_hi ghersales_$10to$30_63917&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsb_X57X h3wIVAySGCh1KVgGEEAQYBCABEgIxu_D_BwE There are other brands if you don't like HF but I've never seen a bad review of this HF device. With the adapter, you can set a torque wrench to a value and see when it really clicks. If it isn't the setting, you can adjust the setting accordingly.
