Really? Why wouldn't they just stick it where its supposed to go

135i Power Kit Review

I just had the power kit installed in my 2011 135i manual transmission. I have been driving it for about 4 days and here is what I have found.

I find that the low to mid range throttle response is less then before the updrade. Without a doubt the car is faster when you are on the turbo from 4k on up but during normal everyday driving I miss the throttle response at the lower rpm,s. I would gladly give up the "exhust burble" to get my throttle response back.

I went to the dealer yesterday to voice my concerns about the driveability difference and they told me that the car has to relearn my driving habbits. Are they out of their minds?

How can they sell something that they know less then nothing about? Because they can.

Knowing what I know now I would not have gone with it. Might even have them change it back to the pre power kit setup. I wonder if they will charge me for that?

No, they are correct

New ECU software, so all the old stored parameters learnt from your driving style have been wiped and the ECU has to 'learn' it all over again.

Based in multiple messages plus the BMW release posted this PPK is on sale by BMW in the USA until the end of 2011. Then it goes back to list price of $1399. Find another dealer. In Canada BMW just recently made this available at the dealers for around $750.

Manual transmissions may be different but I personally would not hesitate to recommend this (on sale) for cars with DCT. Drivability is greatly improved due to the more linear throttle tip-in so it's just less frustrating. Also safer since forward movement from a stop is now predictable. The additional kick once you floor it is a bonus.

I've only put on about 40 miles since getting ppk installed, but I agree with your assessment. Power delivery is much smoother.

I have not found an iota of evidence to that.
It's all speculation for now.
My speculation is that BMW will extend this "special" indefinitely, since it's already a pretty steep price for 20hp, compared to the 3rd party options available for under $500 and gives you at least double that power gain.
Eventually, they will just include it for free as standard option in new cars.

Got "Energized" with this kit today.

All I can see is "Whoa"!

Can definitely feel the increase in torque, but just as I suspected now it exacerbates even more the limitations of the stock suspension. It's still more than adequate when driving somewhat aggressively, but can't maintain its composure when you have to pay the devil.

Need to now ruminate even more on whether to address these limitations, or just live with it until the next baby M hits the US strasse.

For comparison I got the PPK for $555 (thanks Dan at United), and the local dealer (Dreyer-Reinbold) in Indianapolis charged $64.00 for the install.

Just went to the site; it shows $599. Did you speak to someone special at the dealership?

Thanks.

Has anyone had a problem getting this installed if not purchased at that dealership? I've gotten couple quotes and they vary big time with price and installation.

Since I didn't purchase the kit from their parts dept. the client advisor required me to provide a copy of my receipt before they would do the install.

I didn't think to bring it with me, so once I got back home in the loaner I attached it to an e-mail and sent it to him.

Thanks Indymike,

Haven't read much of n54 application of powerpack with the 6mt. I've got the same drivetrain and not happy with low end response. Sounds like in your case, it was helpful. And love your comments about the handling. Was pushing it through a canyon today and as much fun as it was, the suspension felt very soft. It was workable, but should be more of a handful with more power. A very fun handful
