1M For Sale on BaT

Hi all,

Just wanted to spread the word that there is really nice 31K mile 1M for sale on BaT right now!! I purchased this 1M new from Shelly BMW in May of 2011 (28 of 740 in the US) and sold it to a good friend of mine in 2015. Unfortunately, he can no longer drive the car due to an injury he suffered and decided to put it up for sale.

Check out the link below and spread the word to anyone you know looking for a 1M - thanks!!

Sold for $76K, which I think comes out to $79.8K with the buyer's fee. Nice sale.

The sale closed on Easter around Brunch Time. Seems like a tough time to finalize an auction, but maybe I am off-base? Glad the seller got a decent number.

Only if you ignore the fact that the curve drawn is itself just an average between data points. Too small a sample to draw such a conclusion.

Again, it is very apparent that if you buy a limited production BMW that cost above average when new, and then don't drive it hardly at all for over a decade, it could be worth a bit more than you paid for it. But then if you'd bought Tesla, Google, or Apple stock with the money you spent to buy a car you never drive . . .

What is the point? To own a car you enjoy driving? Or to own a car you never drive? I always cringe when I hear people refer to "investing" in a new BMW.

I tried riding my apple stock to cars and coffee and didn't get very far! I think many here, myself included bought these to drive for fun. Sitting in traffic in an a manual M car to get to work is not fun and not a good use of the machine. Many opted to drive it in weekend, trips instead. I think you are conflating a very few that invest in cars with the majority that are just a bit selective as to how they are going to use your cool sports car. Yes it sounds all super cool to say yeah I drive my GT4 in traffic just to able to say you do so. I guess that gives you some moral authority to do that but in the real world it's just no enjoyable to sit in traffic in a machine built for canyons and autobahn. I guess if a lady owns a nice pair of high heels it would be just impressive to say you wear them every day even to jog. Finally, I think most people here are posting because they are surprised their purchase has gone up. Yes I know a few investors but most love the car, want to drive it and hope it keeps its value because they are very expensive to get.

You’re trying to be logical with a 128 driver…

"Many opted to drive it in weekend, trips instead." - This is me.

During the week, I drive my Acura RSX Type-S to and from work.

On the weekend, I'll drive my 1M but only if I know I'll be able to DRIVE it and not be stuck in traffic somewhere.

$105,000

April 24th, black, 1 owner, 7K miles.

I concur; I will never be able to afford any "M" or 1M but if I did, it would be driven but not subjected to winter snow and salt. My 08 128 has 107,000 kms

No, actually I think we are in agreement.

If you don't drive the 1M, one of the finest BMWs ever produced, how can you possibly enjoy it? Just pointing out what they're worth today with no miles on them means nothing to those who bought them to drive. An E30 M3 is a good example of a BMW that can be enjoyed, have miles on it, and still bring a good return when the owner decides it's time to sell. The 1M is similar but I doubt one with 100k-miles on it will ever be worth $100,000. But who had the most fun?

I doubt it. Your purchase of a 128 and description of cringing at people "investing" in a new BMW create the perception that you don't have a lot of experience in the field.

For example, I purchased a 2016 F80 M3 new from BMW, traded my 2012 135i for it. After 3 years, I traded that M3 (with 30k miles on it) for a brand new truck and got almost what I owed; and 0% financing on the truck. After less than a year, I purchased my 1M w/49k miles for $49k.

What's cringeworthy again?
