That's the question!

Comparing it to P cars that are north of 100k makes no sense to me.

So, what comes after the 1M and is under $70k that gives you everything and more than the 1M???????????

🤔🤔🤔
I think the fact that people are saying that maybe only a P car that's currently worth north of $100k is actually a testament to how good the 1M actually is.

If you're trying to restrict to the same price range/value of the 1M, I'm sure it gets even tougher.

PS - Yes I know I don't own a 1M and I'm commenting here, just an admirer.

Just sold the 1M for a Cayman 4cyl. Different style but same sensations and thrills.

Congrats!

Give us a report back after the summer and let us know what you think? Maybe a good comparison would be interesting as it feels like many 1M owners gravitate to a Cayman or 911.

If I can get into a manual Audi R8 with reasonable miles, I might be tempted to swap. Can anyone comment on R8 driving experience?

Enjoyable but not as raw. I thought it was remarkably tame.

I love the Cayman too. It's about the only thing that I really like now but Cayman is more P-51D graceful, svelte, beautiful to 1M which is more P-47. If I was in a dogfight I would probably pick the P51 but if I wanted to fly low and dirty taking flak gimme the big Thud. Very different cars yet both appealing. One is Roger Moore the Other Daniel Craig. One is fine wine the other is malt liquor. : )

Porsche is the last company that is catering to old school enthusiasts. The keep their nav screens out of the way. Offer manuals, good steering feedback and listen to their customers. They brought back NA motor because people like it. That's why Porsche attracts people that used to like what BMW was.

Now that the 2020 Corvette Stingray has been revealed, just wondering if anyone has given thought to that car as a 1M replacement. Although an "apples to oranges" comparison, the performance of the Vette for the price is quite insane. You could potentially even trade 1:1.

Spend any time in Porsche forums, and you’ll find plenty of people who complain how Porsche is getting too modern and soft like BMW, with electric steering, bigger/heavier cars, interiors that are too fancy, etc. For my tastes, 2012’ish was kind of the end of the road for me with both Porsche and BMW. Lotus seems to still be keeping it real, at least for now. I’d love to try out an Evora 400.

I’ve gotta say, although I’m not personally interested and would never buy one without a stick, Corvette just served up a moonshot. The C8 is practically a Ferrari for $60k, which is insane.

The corvette C8 sure looks great. Quite a departure from the past and a step forward for GM. I'm curious to see the write ups and comparisons. If GM brings out a real sports car for $60k that isn't plagued with maintenance issues or cost it could be a big hit.

This. Agree totally...I find current Porsches to be much number than older ones same for BMW. Have driven several newer ones and was happy to get back in the 1M. The last Porsche worth getting for me was the 997 and prior.

Yeah, it really seems like the next real NSX, but even less expensive. I can’t imagine who would buy a new Supra over it for nearly the same price. The Supra had better bring a manual transmission option quickly, or there’s literally zero compelling reasons to buy one...and that’s coming from a longtime GM hater.

Yeah, I had a 996 and then a 987 Cayman, which were both great. If I were to go back, I’d look at a 997 or 987 Cayman R, but I like having usable rear seats and a trunk.

Whenever I get the itch to start looking around at other cars, I just read David E. Davis Jr.’s classic BMW 2002 review and pretend it’s about the E82.

Which review is that?

For me the 1M is simply in a league of its own. Have raised a kid in it since birth—try doing that in any Cayman or 911!! 911 maybe but never a Cayman

The Cayman is quite usable with a kid...but you have to leave your significant other at home. lol

Yes I get what you're saying but BMW would never bring an NA motor back for its fans. A lot of development to do that. So yes Lotus seems to care. Porsche's screen placement is a nod to drivers. Bmws is a nod to non drivers. Definitely all brands watered down but Porsche made. Big statement with their manual only NA GT4 and I applaud them

Certainly good points, although BMW has always been the more practical of the two brands.
