Hole in Oil Pan ? New Motor?

Hi Everyone
I have a 2011 135! coupe, i store it in the winter, and have contacted bmw on storage tips.
I was driving my car home one day and it went into limp more and once I got home all the oil blew out of it, I was close to home when it happened.
I looked underneath and there is hole the size of a dime.
I live in a city without a BMW dealership, I called my BMW dealer which is 8 hrs away, and they basically told me there is nothing they can do.
The frustrating thing is these cars are made to be quality made and I now have a car that i love with a hole in the oil pan.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Sounds like bmw will not help with this financially taking on some of the cost.
What are my options? do i buy a new motor? do I buy a used motor?
Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks
Paul

So... what made the hole ?

My guess is you threw a rod. Then you drove the car home with no oil OR oil pressure ? Buddy you will be needing a new engine.

+1 for Dackelone.

Holes don’t just happen. You either threw a rod or tried to drive over something and the car dropped on it, pan first. The latter scenario would not be as bad. The former scenario is a total dung heap under the hood.

Where is the hole?

Drain plug is about the size of a dime. I can see it falling out if oil was changed prior to storage and not tightened.

But really, we need some kind of picture here.

Just curious, why do you mention storing the car over the winter and the fact that you "have contacted BMW on storage tips?" I just don't see the significance - did you just recently take it out of storage?

Also, what was the exact sequence of events? You went into limp mode with no other warnings accompanying, such as low oil pressure or level? And when you say the "oil blew out if it," how did you know? Did you hear anything? Throwing a rod or taking impact damage significant enough to rupture the oil pan would be pretty loud - the hole would also likely be irregularly-shaped. If you didn't hear/feel anything, and you have a perfectly round dime-shaped hold in the sump - then I'm with iminhell1 .

This is very confusing... It's a 9 year old cat way out of warranty. Zero chance the dealer will help you.

Can you upload photos?
Did the engine sound different/odd?

What does winter have to do with anything?

thanks for the replies guys, I have attached a photo below of my oil pan.
Heres the long story to what happened , the storage thing really has nothing to do with the issue, I had the car out of storage for over 2 months, I actually drive it 8 hrs to have the BMW dealer do a service on it and change the oil pan gaskets, i drove the car back 8 hrs.
About a month later i was driving the car home and my car went into limp mode , as i was close to home about 1/2 a KM . just before i got into the drive way then all the oil let go out of the pan... i am assuming the rod let go, went into limp mode then blew out the pan?
No sure just asking some advice.
I am planning on keeping the car , its my first BMW- what should I do?
Buy a used motor? Buy a new one? what do they usually cost?

thanks
Paul

Sorry Paul, it looks like the image didn't embed correctly, at least not for me. But replying here to let you know that, I see the URL of the image. Yeah, that's something in the engine letting go. Gunna need a new engine, almost for sure. This is not common at all though.

Do you have any modifications or tune on the car? Did you buy the car used/have any history on the maintenance?

I've recently been hearing of N55 with Rod Bearing failures, but it's still pretty rare apparently. I guess it's possible that when they did the Oil Pan Gasket they might have messed something else up in the process but that's hard to prove, otherwise, your oil pan gasket replacement does carry a 1 year, 12k mile warranty (standard in the US at least).

Location would be helpful so we can guide you to a BMW indy, NOT a dealership.

A used n55 motor is around $5k. I was recently looking at some. They were anywhere from 50k miles to 70k miles.
Check car-parts.com, that is the only place I was looking at the time. Could be cheaper somewhere else

You drove 8 hours to get an oil pan gasket replaced at a dealer?
Then on the way home the pan gets A hole in it?

Gotta be related to the work that was done... Way too coincidental.

Can't you sue the dealer or something?
