Rear shock replacement

I have a bad rear shock on my 2008 135i-is it best to get all the upper and lower mounting hardware as well then I replace them or is that not necessary?

I would say yes even if you are at low mileage, given the age of your car. The rubber is going to be old on the shock mounts. Are you doing the other side also - may be time for a full refresh? You could also buy the mounts and see what the condition is of your existing ones and make that call at that time, return if yours are good.
