Danielle - The sparkling graphite is a very dark gray. It's a pretty color, but will be hard to keep clean. Even with weekly washings, I'm a fanatic about keeping my cars clean, so I purposely avoided dark colors (been there, done that). The Alpine White with Beige interior is a great "California" look, and we're also very pleased with our Arctic. If the space gray were available when we bought our cars, one of them would have been that color for certain. If you've looked at the photo threads, you can see that Arctic has chameleon qualities that are great... but it's a personal choice. Good luck!

Arctic is a beautiful color because it changes color from silver to gray to blue to green and in the sunset it is golden. I love it since it isn't boring and it's pretty rare.

I knew Nikki and LEDZEP would chime in and give you a vote for Arctic. When I buy an E90 or an E92, I'm probably going to go for either Titanium Silver, Arctic, or Space Gray, but that depends on how dark Space Gray really is. As LEDZEP said, dark colors are harder to maintain. I just don't care to put forth the effort, but I really don't want to have to deal with the consequences of darker colors if I don't put forth the effort to maintain them. My reservations regarding Arctic are the following: 1. I have no idea which interior I would like with that color. I think the beige goes nicely, but I don't want a light-colored interior for the same reason I don't want a dark-colored exterior. Maybe, Terra for an interior. Maybe, black, but I'm not really sold on that combination. 2. If I ever get into an accident with my Arctic car, I am afraid any areas that need repair will lose the chameleon effect after repair. I don't know if my fear is founded or not, but it is present. I also wonder how easy/how difficult it will be for the body shop to match the paint. If Space Gray has a similar chameleon nature, I might nix that from the choices. Then, I'll end up back with silver outside and black inside like on my current car. But, I've got to say that I love the chameleon nature of Arctic. It's really tempting to me.

P.S. Having said that, could someone please explain the "E" in the model numbers. Is that the European designation or something?? |

Space Gray will be on the coupes in Sept. Have you thought about waiting and getting a 328 or 335 coupe?

I'll try to answer your question about the "E". Basically, it is the BMW internal designation code for their automobiles. It is combined with a two digit number, as in: E90. The E90 is the new 3 Series sedan. The E91 is the new 3 Series Wagon, and the E92 is the soon to come coupe. The previoius design of the 3 Series was the E46. The new BMW 5 Series is the E60... and on and on. Most all manufacturers have a similar system. VW and Audi use "B", i.e. the new Passat is a B6. I really wasn't trying to persuede you into liking Arctic (or Alpine White for that matter).. just sharing my thoughts about them and why I chose them.

If you want to see why Arctic is so beautiful, check out this thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12281 ... or any of Nikki's photo threads (the girl has talent I must say)... For Alpine White: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11862 And for desert, a bit of both: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14188 After that, just cruise through the photo section looking at the different colors. What have you narrowed your choices to so far?

one thing you could do is go to a dealer (even on a sunday if you don't want to be bothered) during the day and look at all the new 3's on the lot. That way you can see many of the available colors exactly as they will look. We did that, brochure in hand, and decided on SG / black / brushed aluminum trim.
This is a very personal choice and there are no good/bad colors. There are, however, good/bad color/trim combinations. Choose a base color first then see what interior/trim combinations look best. You can see some of the combinations on any dealer's lot Good luck!

I second the SG choice, not that I'm partial to that color or anything. It changes looks based on the way lights hits it but never looks bad. |

love SG! have to admit, it looks better in person, esp. in different lighting conditions, than in photos. Really love the way it looks at night under artificial light -- it makes the subtle purple hues come out

I think Arctic is a nice feminine color for a BMW. It looks less agressive than the Titanium Silver. My Arctic 325i is in production this week. (I got beige leather & the poplar wood.)
I'm hoping it won't look so girly my husband won't want to drive it. I almost got red w/ black leather but that red is REALLY red. This is my first post but I have learned a huge amount reading this forum. |
