Nurburgring schedule

Anyone have the 2008 schedule for the nurburgring (i.e. when it will be open to the public)?

Can't find it on the net. I'll be up there april 12-13 depending on which day it's open. I heard it is usually open on sunday but sometimes it's open on sat.

I'd be interested as well...Driving the ring is like a dream come true but I'm not sure how much I'd want to push my 1er that hasn't been broken in yet.

I wonder if anyone here has any suggestions about breaking in the engine?

...kidding about that last part

hahaha, I didn't even bother to ask on that last one.

I'm going to drive it easy until I get to the ring and they just go for it, I won't have the car at 100k miles anyway so whatever.

No kidding. Not that some people don't try, check this out. It's a late 80's Ruf GTR (real life) versus a yellow bird in GT4. It looks like they may have sped up the footage or put some cuts in.

What I saw on this msg brd a while back was advise about taking care of brake stress. Someone said they thought that was more important than motor stress during the brake in period.

Do a search...it was discussed several months ago I believe.

Yes, those are tourist driving times. Be careful, weekends have become a madhouse at the 'Ring in recent years.

This is a video I took back in 2000 (Porsche C2), maybe it will help you.

All I can say is in real life, things seem to be happening a lot faster than in the video game. Straights seem to shrink, and going over 120 mph gets to be bumpy - and you really need to know on which side of the track to be, so it won't throw you out of whack.

On the straight before Schwedenkreuz I saw the needle passing 140 mph in the 335i (can't be too sure, it's almost impossible to glance at the speedo at these speeds). Luckily, I had done an instructed lap before during which the instructor had pointed to the tire marks leading straight into the right side barrier - so I knew I had to brake hard at that spot.

What I found the most dangerous is that a few straights and light curves can lull you into the sort of partial detachment you sometimes get when driving a nice scenic road. You cannot afford this, because these stretches are almost always followed by some treacherous portion and if you are off just by a few mph on entrance, or just a foot off on exit, you will get spit out in the barriers...

It took more than 30 min to get rid of the adrenaling shakes afterwards - and I waited another 30 min before heading back on track. You literally forget to breathe in some sections.

It was so amazing, that every Euro Delivery from now on will have to have the 3 days required for a Ring detour. You simply cannot get enough of the Ring, it's an addiction.

(As you could probably tell, this was not an expert's review. )

I know exactly what you mean! I drove a McLaren SLR in anger last year and the come-down took about 3 days in all

Still not scratched the 'ring itch myself, maybe this will be the year.

I was at the ring on 4/18 before noon...watching from the Adenau bridge area. Didn't see any 1 series there, but saw a red M3 pushing hard on the track...not to mention a new Nissan GTR, and numerous prototype cars. The weather was a bit cold...but spectating was great.

Starting dateTimeEventMonday, 15.09.08 17:15 until 19:30 hTouristenfahrten, 15.09.2008
(Nordschleife)

On this particular date (Sep 15, 2008) noted above, the only time I could drive would be from 5:15-7:30 pm correct?

Thanks, just want to be sure because it is a small window of time to plan around.

Yes, that's correct. Better be there at 5PM, to be one of the first ones out on the track. All it takes is one accident and the session can be effectively over.

If you can, try to be there Sunday, it's open all day. Even if you get there in the afternoon, it would give you more chances...

Good luck! (and post your adventures)
