I just bought the CP-E mount myself. When I get the car in a week or so and if there hasn't been a write up, I'll post something.

I got pulled over in my Audi in Mountain View and got written up for no front plate and the tint being too dark on my front windows. Since I knew I wasn't keeping the A4 anyways I just went ahead and screwed the plate in and got it all signed off.

You can always pay the fine without fixing the problem. It costs a lot more, and you will most likely get the ticket again.

Some areas of California are much stricter about having no front license plate than others. Where I live it's not a problem but in other areas people are ticketed for it repeatedly.

get the EuroSpec tow hook license plate holder. Drill free!
Paying $60 + shipping + tax for one of these just seems absurd. Something like this should be ridiculously easy and cheap to fabricate for occasional use. Just take the tow hook down to your local hardware store for a thread match and see what you can cobble together for <$10...

Im yet to be hassled for my front plate but I have been pulled over 3 times for a stupid tinted plastic rear plate cover.. I just carry a screwdriver with me and pull it off infront of the cop... I cant help it though, it just looks cool.

^^this.

I must just be lucky, but I ran my old R32 with no front plate for 6 years. Got tickets for speeding, but never a front plate or ticket for my tint. I also park the car in the garage, so I dont have to worry about the meter maids writing me a ticket.

As long ast they don't somehow force me to mount a plate, I'd just pay the fine and keep on truckin'

Any advice would be appreciated. I know someone is going to say, "just get the plates drilled". That's my last resort. I take a lot of photos so having front plates is more of a nuisance.
Just stick it on down the street from the station, once you get it signed off remove it. When it happened to me the cop said the plate wasnt actually mounted so i needed bolts holding it on. So I took a grinder and cut off the heads of 2 bolts, glued them to the plate then use 3m to stick the plate to the front of the car. A little time consuming but better then drilling your bumper. Good luck =]
