When my 1M arrives we organise a bmw M meeting on Nring so maybe we can meet up and have some fun with our cars on track.

This car is great. I loved my 335i chipped for the most part and before it started falling apart at 40k-50k miles.

BUT

We all know the motor is a torque monster and can be boosted to achieve big power increases BUT

How does the car operate in high temps 90F+ over an extended track session?

335i would run great (especially in the cold weather), but when it gets hot so goes the power.

The great thing about the M3 is it can be punished for an hour straight and keep pulling and pulling.

I really hope //M solved the N54/N55 cooling issues.

I'll be out at Sebring in July with my M3 and my buddy will have his 1M.

Home of the 12 hour AMLS, 3.7 mile long track, 17 turns, mix of pavement and concrete, add summer heat and humidity. Can't wait to see what the 1M is capable of.

Poser or true player.

I have no evidence to substantiaite the comments, only the detail from the individual I spoke to from a Nurburgring Hire Car Company.

"I had a chat with one of the hot shot drivers from our Ring Hire Company today while doing our Lotus Nurburg Ring tour. He has it on good authority that the much publicized performance of the M3 GTS around the Ring and the fact that it is the fastest M car to date to lap the circuit is untrue. He has seen the BMW logs and spoken to the BMW test drivers and they indicated alledgedly (for legal reasons) that the 1M was quicker by around 8 seconds than the GTS

Believe it or not!!

BTW, this driver actually drove the ring in the BSM 1M when it was there over the weekend. He wants one!"
What did you smoke yesterday?

GTS driven by Sportauto did it in 7:48 seconds so 1M can do it in 7:40?
Same time as McLaren SLR, Porsche 997 GT3 and Merc SLS AMG? Please

Good points. The one thing I found the M3 lacking in the M3 are that the OEM brake pads and fluids do not hold up well. At the very least, you need to swap out the brake fluids as well as get brake pads that don't melt as easily. This is hard to do without having pads that squeal like a pig off the track.

Then you, my friend have forgotten about THE most significant factor in automobile performance, at the drag strip or at the track. Power to weight ratio is NUMBER 1. No arguing that. That is the "real" physics here. Sure there are exceptions to this rule but it is still the most important factor. Of course an ultra tight course such as an autox (which is not a road coarse nor a track IMHO)

I would like to tell you to think about Bugatti Veyron and its faster competitions at the track. Power to Weight is not the only real physics. There are MANY more "real physics" that plays as equally vital variables as P/W at the track.

I love comments from M3 owners. Yadee yada ... 1M is great B-U-T can it do this? Did you know they used more paint on the M3 than the 1M, therefore it's better.

Let me ask you this, did your 335i has a M badge on the rear deck? What you are insinuating is BMW would whore out the M badge and not deliver a car of worthy of a M badge. That I think is a bigger problem than 1M is a poseur or player. It means BMW is going downhill in the long term.

More paint makes it heavier

Let me be clear, I hope the 1M lives up to the hype. I can only comment from my experience with a chipped N54 with an upgraded intercooler, upgraded oil cooler, front fog lamp delete and running straight distilled water. It ran hot no matter what I tried to do. I grew tired of hooking up two vornado fans in between sessions.

Heat was the weak link with the motor (not considering that spark plugs needed replacement every 10k) I hope the M engineers fixed the heat issues because if they did the 1M will be a heck of a car.

I can't wait to see that car on the track, better still I can't wait to drive the car on the track.

And frankly we all know the M badge was diluted well before the 1M, heck the E92 is a great car but no where near the E36 M.

Every time a 1M fanboy rants against M3, he embarrasses himself.

That post was no exception.

M3 > 1M.

1M is a VERY nice car, and a great value. It has good performance, acceptable looks and a reasonable price for what is offered. Attempting to drag down other BMW products to prove this product is "good" because THAT product isn't so "great" is no way to approach defending your preferred vehicle.

People compare to, and try to exceed M3 SPECIFICALLY because it IS so fantastic. NOT because 2 or 3 generations ago were fantastic (did someone REALLY claim E36 > E92? LOL), but because THIS version, with that iconic motor and great handling all while STILL offering reasonable back seat accommodations and every day useability, is a STUNNING accomplishment.

If you like 1M, and I do, then stop being a coward and just OWN IT. Just stand up and say what you DO like, and stop trying to prove the greats aren't so great to defend your preference. If 1M is so good, give it a chance to prove IT'S great. Not that it's better than <<insert your list of over rated cars here>> because they were never that good, but because 1M really IS that good.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.
