Finally got around to ordering the lever, my procrastination was rewarded with a price drop to $79. Usually items go NLA on me

Appreciate the lead on this one as I was never keen on the alcantara boot or performance knob.

Best $50 bucks and 5 minutes, 1 bolt mod I have ever done.

Feels like a linear cable operated throttle from days of olde. Push it 1/4 and you get 1/4 instead of an 1/8th.

You acclimate very quickly to the new range and car seems peppier...even though it really is just using more throttle per cm of travel.

Nice!!!


Diff gets her later this week....that will be interesting with the new throttle response.
So I pulled the sprint booster off.

If the 1st 1/2 " of travel was a little less aggressive I'd probably keep it. I really like the fact that it is a 1:1 like a cable throttle and a lightened flywheel. Throttle response is greatly increased.

The rub is that the first 1/2 " of travel is overly jumpy. It is tough to get away smoothly from a stop sometimes.

So I am going to put it up for sale. $40 + shipping. (THIS IS SOLD)

I never did the diff and I have that for sale too....but no hurry . I may even put it in and try it. (THIS HAS SOLD)

I'll be interested to hear your opinion.

Personally, after almost 50-years of riding and driving BMWs, including many failed "short-shift" attempts, I find the stock set-up in my 2013 128i M-sport with its (stock) 335is knob is about as perfect a shift-linkage as I've ever had the opportunity to drive. I can't image a need for changing it, but then I have a 35-inch sleeve-length which may impact my experience.

The BMW performance shifter is fine. I'd like it a little taller but not an issue.

Biggest thing about the shifter is removing the damned CDV....

Agreed that the stock setup feels great sans CDV. I thought the shifter was long NLA but once Ric stumbled across the lever by itself I was compelled to buy one. I’ll give it a try at some point and see what the fuss is about. So many of the other performance parts for both e82 and e90/1/2 are long gone and tough to find second hand.

Installed the Turner intake tube I just picked up.

Easy install. Unscrew the hose clamp, Pull the airbox, pull the PS fluid container, unclip the hose coming off the manifold to get it out of the way, pull the IAT sensor plug. Unscrew the hoseclamp that is second away from the engine. Remove the old one

Install the new hose to the airbox and you can slip the hose on the intake.

Tighten clamps and return all the pieces...

Seems to rev quicker. Louder over 4000 rpm.

Sounds rather exotic. But no problem going down the road at 80.

Of course I have a giant hole in the airbox cover too.

I like it!!

Uncorked intakes sound so great on these cars.

Put the intact cover back on and it is quiet with a nice little bump in sound.

Will put the ventilated cover back on soon....sounds too good ....

So I am now just over 100,000 miles and I am starting to think about a suspension refresh.

This is a street car and suburban daily driver first and foremost. But I would like to get back to a track day on occasion and do love a twisty mountain road..

Car has M3 control arms on it and DINAN upper rear mounts. Nothing else suspension wise but stock sport suspension.

I am fine with slightly stiffer, especially at the rear, but not much lower if at all.

Here is what I am thinking.

Replacing all the springs and shocks with a matched kit. Leaning towards Bilstein B12 (includes Eibach springs) or the Koni 1140 kit. I don't know the spring rates included but will try to find out before pulling the trigger.

Replacing upper strut mounts with OEM and adding fixed dinan camber plates.

Replacing rear subframe mounts with M3, Delrin or solid. I've seen some saying zero change in NVH. I'd love to get the undamped mass of the rear subframe, diff and suspension out of the equation. BMW has gone this way on its new cars as well.

I'll probably add M3 gearbox mounts and replace Motor mounts with OEM and leave the diff mounts alone.

I am torn about sway bars as I think I need to drive the new suspension first before changing something else.

Once this is done it is time for all new brake lines and possibly an F30 front caliper upgrade.

If anyone has thoughts or advice on this please chime in!!!!

4 pot brembos F30 Calipers and 335i rotors installed.

Very nice upgrade.

Not really noticeable at all during run around town but get on them and wow do they stop hard and pedal feel is excellent.



This is the rotor and pad kit I ordered. You cannot use the sensor since the plug is different. I kept it and will cut and splice next time I need one.

The Bilsteins B12 kit arrived Sunday morning...and got installed that afternoon. Nothing remarkable about the install.

Pull all the mounting plates for brake lines loose and all your sensors so you have plenty of slack and rotate the front wheel and you will have enough to get the whole thing out from under the fender.

I zinged the shock nuts off while the old fronts were in the car and the new ones I compressed them with my body weight enough to get a couple threads started.

I used two wrenches laid side by side on top of the strut mount with the socket and extension between them with the shock bottom on the ground on a foam pad.

Pushed down on the wrenches and had a helper start the nut. At 230lb I just barely had enough force to get them on...so you little guys rent a spring compressor.

Added DINAN camber plates and OEM rear shock mounts. Already had DINAN rear shock mounts and M3 front lower control arms.

Initial thoughts are that car is great for daily use and not too stiff. Much better body motion control.

Will let it settle in, get it aligned and then flog it a little for a ride report.

Any reason why you'd opt for M3 RSFBs over poly or even solid? Seems like M3 RSFBs dropped off the face of the earth in terms of popularity over the years due to other options offering more benefit with little to no additional drawbacks. Plus 2 piece seems to make install a whole lot easier.

I'm running Whiteline inserts right now which made a huge difference but the 2 piece solid kit from Revshift will going in my car if I ever get around to it.

I still haven't come to a real conclusion.

It will most likely end up being a 2 piece so I only have to use the puller to remove the oem ones and not have to press in new ones. And I'm leaning harder poly or similar right now. I really want rubber out....

Found a used set of clean 261's on FB marketplace.

Brought them home and found out they would not clear my F30 calipers at the face.

Got some 10 mm spacers and 83 mm studs from Bimmerworld and ran across the spacer chamfer problem.

I had to grind a bevel on the inside of the wheel chamfer so the spacer will sit flat with no rocking. Simple to do and very effective. BUT YOU MUST MAKE SURE YOUR SPACERS SIT FLAT!!!!

Got a wild hair and painted my a pillars. They were gray. Grabbed a can of automotive interior lacquer. Several light coats.

Follow the typical instructions to remove. Pop off the AIRBAG cover, remove torx bit, pull top of cover out an inch, then pull up and back.

Clean the AIRBAG covers with solvent.

I didn't clean the fabric at all.

lots of very light coats.

Reinstall by pulling the white plastic plugs out out of the car and sliding in place on the A pillar cover then reverse the process.

The uneven surface in the pics below is the light through the rain drops...
