Back window (coupe) has a seal/molding?

Hi. My 135i coupe does not have a seal/molding around the rear window. Is this the case for everyone? I saw a 128 and it did.

Furthermore, looking online it seems the part number for the seal/gasket is not available and only comes with the window itself. Anyone knows about this?

It all sounds a bit odd

My 2008 135i does have a rubber edge around the rear window, The rear window itself is secured to the body with an adhesive kit. The rubber edge must come with the window itself, because Realoem doesn't show a separate part number.

Thanks, that's very helpful. Apparently my glass is not properly installed and is missing that rubber piece. Kind of sucks .

What year is your car? Perhaps the later production years deleted the rubber gasket.

2011. Looking at it it feels like it's missing something but I have no idea. The glass shop is :

Perhaps other Forum members can do a quick check to see if their coupe has the rubber edge on the rear window.

I was hoping someone else would assist with a ultra quick check or picture...

Mine looks like the car above.
Yours is certainly missing the rubber.

Not sure if that’s an issue or not.

Thanks both. Other than water/insulation, not sure if there is increased wind noise or so. I'll report findings

yes, mine has a rubber gasket surrounding the rear window
I'll bet that the PO/glass company had to replace that window and didn't order the gasket,

I've got the rubber as well. 2011 135i. Never had anything replaced, has always been that way.

Thanks all. The rubber piece is not available on a standalone basis and the window (which clearly was replaced) was mounted too high (almost no gap up top). So the glass shop would have to remove and install a new one...

Kind of sucks.

Might be a non-issue. The glass should have a continuous bead of mastic adhesive all the way around for air/water sealing - you'd have wind noise if there were gaps. So you should be protected from water leaks. Beyond that it's mostly cosmetic and I kinda think it looks better without the molding. Probably not worth worrying about.

Is it even possible to remove the back window without breaking it (once the adhesive has set) in order to install the rubber gasket?

yeah, I wouldn't worry about it - unless insurance pays for glass replacement/gasket, in which case you 'could have a 'lil accident'

I think this is exactly what the glass shop is worried about. I do have a lot of wind noise and I thought it could be coming from the rear ...

Truck in front starts spraying rocks and dirt and I swerve so fast that I spin and chip rear window right when I'm facing the opposite direction. I quickly correct it and carry on. Then I get hired as a stunt driver.
