Auto Locking Doors?

This sounds like a basic feature....but I haven't seen in on my 1.
Can you some how program the doors to lock automatically either when the car starts, goes over a certain speed, etc.
Seems like a basic safety feature I've had on every other car I've ever had......I assume its in the 1.....I just haven't been able to do it!
Any one have any comments?

PS. With 700 miles on the car (135i convert), average mileage looms at 21MPG....maybe if I puncture the fuel tank it'll be even lower. That would be great.:iono:

I believe so. You have to scroll through the computer menu on the turn signal arm.

The function is in your settings menu.

Once you go over a certain speed eg.5km/h the doors lock..

Need auto unlock

The locking option is there, but I can't believe the automatic unlock ISN'T there, when the engine is shut off. Even my Mini did this. Because of this, I don't do the auto locking anymore.

My 1er locks it's doors when I drive over a certain speed and automatically UNLOCKS its doors when a remove/eject the key. Turning off the car doesn't in its self unlock the doors.

I have mine to auto lock at speeds greater than 20kph. I'm pretty sure mine unlocks all 4 doors as soon as i remove the key from the car (e.g. pull up in a parking spot)

It's a menu option, and they lock after 5mph.

mine do not unlock automatically...you have to either push the unlock or pull the handle twice...any idea how to set it for auto-unlock?

Mine only auto-locks, it doesn't auto-unlock. So I have to unlock myself, but I always forget. Just end up pulling the door handle twice to open the door (once to unlock, once to open).

The auto-unlock might be a North America vs. Australia/rest of the world thing.

Could you please expand a little more on this? I'm also interested in setting this up in my car... as well as the rearview mirror auto-aim-down function when I hit reverse (It does not do it in either position of the mirror selector).

Oh, and one more: Can I make the car signal with the horn when I lock/unlock it? Is this also a programmable feature?

Thanks,
Andres G

With the car on and stopped, scroll through the menu items until you reach the key symbol with the check mark. Go into the menu, then scroll through the items until you reach the lock symbol. Select that one and select the appropriate lock feature. I think there's one to lock after a certain period of time (it has a clock symbol) and there's one to lock when you start driving. I think the symbol looks something like: ->|

Some of the steps could be wrong as I'm going off of my memory, but that's the gist of it.

For the right rearview pointing down in reverse, move the mirror selection switch to the left (driver's side); the switch you use to select which mirror to adjust.

As for the horn thing, I'm not sure, but I don't recall seeing that in the manual. Hope this helps!

Page 23 of the non-iDrive 1 series manual explains how to set auto locking upon driving off - auto unlocking is not available in the U.S. so the manual suggests using the dash mounted lock switch to unlock all doors.

Page 21 shows how to set the lock confirmation signal which involves a flash of the lights but no horn - Thanks to BMW for a bit less parking lot noise pollution!

And the "Automatic Curb Monitor is explained on pages 42~43.

i know there was a lengthy disscussion on here about that.

dont mean to high jack ur thread, but since we're close to the same subject, do the 1's offer an option for the horn to sound when i hit the lock button on the fob. The only way i know its locked is if i stand next to it and listen for the locking mechanism

No - the option is only to set the lights to flash. Luckily, the locking mechanism is pretty audible.

b/c locking/unlocking for sum reason only works w/i like 10 ft, so the automatic window open feature is fairly useless to me

It unlocks when you eject the key and not when you turn off the engine.

Not NA models. You have to hit unlock button or tug on the door handle twice.

Before I go on a rant, why in the world would BMW do this for NA cars?! I just drove a Chevy Impala that had this feature. They can obviously make it happen with some simple programming - anyone have any insight?!

At least on my vert the first pull on the door handle drops the window and the second opens the door. I believe the coupe's also have frameless windows as well which would necessitate the need to have an action to drop the window before you open it or else it wouldn't be out of the seal.

I don't think the Impala has frameless windows.
