275/295s on stock 1M wheels?

So I've been putting off the inevitable tire change from the original 7.5k mile PS2s. Mostly out of fear of the dealer messing up the wheels, but also because I wanted to give others an opportunity to play with different tires combinations since I'll likely be living with whatever decision I make for the next 10 years. Unfortunately, the old tires have no grip anymore, so this spring I'll be pulling the trigger.

The car's suspension is bone stock, and I do not use spacers. I'll be installing the revised liners. The replacement tires will be PS4S. I'm seriously contemplating the 275/295 combo to get the extra width while retaining a diameter as close as possible to stock.

I do not want anything to rub.

For those of you who have tried this, or driven a 1M so-equipped, what your impression? Will it definitely rub over bumps and at full lock? Is sidewall flex enough to deter you from making the same decision again (i.e., how bad is steering response and cornering stability affected)? I can't imagine the extra tire weight affects handling and acceleration much, but if so, please share!

I've spent a lot of time researching this only to find conflicting accounts, so any direct feedback would be very much appreciated!

I'm running 19" PS4s in 255 front and 285 rear without spacers on stock suspension and stock wheels, without rubbing. I do have the new liners.

On track I run APEX wheels with Toyo R888 tires in 265/35/18 front and 285/30/18 rear without issues.

I have 275/35/18 square on my converted mutt. Rubs lightly at full lock. I'd imagine 275/30/19 would too.

Thanks for the feedback. What's the front wheel offset and do you have the revised liners? Can you post a pic of your setup?

If you just go by the numbers, the 275/30R19 diameter is 2.1mm less than that of the 275/35R18, and 6.5mm less than the original 245/35R19.

Those liners are not NASA grade high tech ultra precision pieces they are just plastic with slight variations so it can rub slightly on some cars especially if they weren't install super carefully. Also different tires have different thread width and depth even with same tire size so it is possible for slight variation. I believe the PS4 is slightly wider than SS and the Yokohama Advan was wider even in the same size. Even with the revised liners there is not that much extra room at full lock.

Did you end up going with these sizes? How did it work out?

I did a deep dive on this when I replaced my tires. Looked around here as well to see what other people were running. Since I wanted to keep the OE wheels I ended up going with this setup which was based on the 1M safety car.

I ended up with PSS

F: 255/35/19
R 285/30/19

it has the 20mm stagger you are looking for, and gives you a bit more width.

I'd be cautious about going much wider on the OE wheels aren't technically meant to support anything wider than 285.

1mGator had a really nice 265/295 setup

Good luck.

I have these sizes (Michelin PS4s).

The only time it rubs is big double compression of the rear suspension, IE: not often. No issues at full lock during street driving, I haven't had it to the track so I can't comment on that.

Grip is still negligible in a straight at full throttle and anything under 40mph, corner grip is excellent, maybe too good.

I was considering this setup, however Discount is refusing to install the 285's as they do not have the right load rating. have you seen any issues with the 285 rears?

Nope, and no rubbing, it actually fills out rear better and looks like I have suspension drop
