n55 diverter valve

My car is finally FBO, and I've noticed that the diverter valve doesn't always release a sharp, distinguished release of air--its begun to have a drawn out flat sound. I assume that means its not holding the pressure well (this is first turbo car so still learning as I go)

I haven't been able to find where there's an upgrade of any kind (although read on Vargas that their rebuilds come with a stronger, metal DV) and after much thread reading here I've come to an inconclusive answer on my own.

Has anyone had to replace theirs? I assume a new OEM DV wouldn't hold the higher boost pressures all that long

I think the n55 doesn't have an external diverter so not sure if any bovs are made for the n55. I could be wrong though

You are right in that its not a true BOV, its an electronic diverter valve that recirculates rather than vent to the atmosphere. Its located on the compressor side of the turbine. My question was is there an aftermarket replacement that will hold the higher boost pressures it sees when the vehicle is FBO + JB4

I haven't been able to find any but it sounds like mine is not holding steady under the excess pressure. It was never designed for sustained boost that map5 creates, so life expectancy can be assumed to be shortened. Just curious what others experiences were with this situation.

Check out the GFB (Go Fast Bits) DV+

https://x-ph.com/gfb-dv-upgrade-n20-n55-bmw/

Available from other vendors as well, this was just the first google link.
I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that this is pretty much the only upgrade solution.

+1 sounds great. I decided not to use the spring.

I honestly hear no difference, not sure what you all are talking about. Maybe it's because i'm always focusing on the sound of the Performance Exhaust?

This would be the first mod I'd install on my 13' but i've seen videos on the install for the N55 and how much of a horror story it is. Like a 3-4 hour deal just to get at the damn thing..

Also the GFB for this engine is not at all about the sound, it's about actuating the valve dependent on vacuum and active boost levels, not just having the valve stay 100% open or closed like the stock valve, also I know it's loads stronger, I had one on my 18' GTI

BTW any N55's on here that have installed the GFB? I'd love to know your experience with installing it way back down in there. I have a decent amount of engine DIY experience, but not so much when it comes to ripping half the engine apart, nor would I want too..

Some will say you need to remove the entire water pump, you only need to remove the mounting bolts. When it's mobile you're able to get a long Allen key on the top bolt. Removing the fan helps tremendously. It's fairly easy and without any hiccups should take 1-2 hours.

Oof I didn't see this. When installing the DV+ in the instructions it has an option for a 2nd spring, I believe it goes between the housing and plunger. Something about making a different sound. If you didn't use the spring it acts as the stock Diverter valve, just more durable.
