F*&K Me! Baked on Tree Sap

Guys, I need some advice! I've tried just about every thing to get this damn baked on tree sap off my car. From mineral Spirits to Goo Gone and even Compound Wax... Any body got an idea on what I should use?

Supposedly (note the use of that word) WD-40 does it. I haven't had to try it but it's in the back of my brain as an option.

Lots of things will do it of course but you risk removing clear-coat and pain in the process. That always stuck with me as something that -might- break down the sap but shouldn't murder the finish in the process.

It's a good idea to get tree sap off your car BEFORE it bakes... if possible, if it bakes it's a problem. Inspect your car daily in the future and get the sap off asap, before it bakes. Since you probably got the sap on the car being parked under a tree in the shade...get it off next time before taking it out in the sun to bake. What has worked for me before it bakes is just rinsing the car with the garden hose and slighly rubbing the sap with my finger or a non barsive cloth with the water still running on the car..If the cold water does not loosen it try using warm to hot water to melt.loosen, dissolve the sap. Also a cleaner wax will take the remaining sap off if there is any left without scratching the car. Compound or a clay bar would be my last resort and then put on a few coats of wax when you are done. The worst thing is trying to rub off the sap before its loose as this tends to put minor scratch lines in the paint.

Have you tried olive/vegetable oil? Let it soak some up from a paper towel or cloth and see if it softens up and unsticks. I've used it to free things from those sticky pest traps among other things.

Turtle wax bug and tar remover (available at most/all auto parts stores) does the trick for me. Just be gentle, let it soak in, this way you don't swirl the paint too much.

Yeah, I've used the bug and tar remover on my 2010 truck that sits in the drive and gets washed when it rains. It worked, I applied it multiple times on the really thick, like 1/8" thick stuff.

Thanks for the input guys; I've tried every other method mentioned besides the tarminator. Where can I find this at? The tar has gotten to the point now where is crusty and scrape-able.

Another solution is to use isopropyl alcohol. i believe it is 70% in the bottle. you want to use a 30% solution so mix the alcohol with water at a 1:1 dilution ratio. spray some on a towel and wipe away. follow up with claybar if necessary.
