removing clown nose?
Has anyone removed the red "clown nose" thats mounted under the rear-view mirror?
When my car comes in a few weeks, removing that thing will be on the top of my list of mods. I dunno, it just looks so out of place in the otherwise clean interior of the 1er's.

You can probably just buy the blank one from dealer and ask it to install but it's funny that this actually bothers you... Paint it black if it does is my advice.

Also, unless you have auto dimming rear view mirror, it serves as the dimmer switch. At least it did on all other models. I personally like it. It's a BMW trademark, so to speak.

I would like to change it so its like the old style. Flip foward or backward to change the dim. I don't like the turning/twisting. I always forget which way i have to turn it to dim or vise versa.

Can the clown nose (and parking lamps) be prorgammed to flash & chirp when you lock or open the vehicle when using the key, to simulate this alarm type feature?
Really dug this feature on the non-alarm equipped E46. |

Only if you have the alarm installed and programmed. The chirp comes from the alarm siren which is installed under the left rear wheel well.

Agreed... I don't even "look" at it anymore... there are so many other mods that I desire than to change my clown nose (lol... funny).

Yes, I am new to BMW too. The red "clown nose" is one of the only things that I don't like about my new convertible. Otherwise ---love--- it!! Has anyone painted it successfully/neatly? I wonder about removing it too, neatly.
My 1 series does have auto dimming of mirrors and -no- alarm system. That makes the knob-bulb there unnecessary. |

I have an auto-dimming mirror in mine and I don't have a clown nose! The auto-dimming sensor is a small hole in the top centre of the mirror.

as far as i know : the clown nose comes with cars with alarm , and it does nothing but red flashing , each flash gives different meaning , removing it is very simple ( 4 pins and it's out ) paint it black and you are done .. and it has nothing to do with the auto dimming , there is 2 separate sensors from the front and the back of the mirror to control the dimming ..
if the car doesn't have alarm system , then the mirror will not have the clown nose , it's not cheap to replace the mirror with another one from the dealer .. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3...EBAY80/123.jpg read the options for different mirrors which comes with BMW cars .. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...37&hg=51&fg=40 |

I don't have the factory alarm but I still have the clown nose... it serves no purpose as I have auto dimming mirrors.

there is this module to simulate Alarm LED blink and chirp:
http://www.wit-usa.com/sms/shop/inde...ode=view&id=65 I have their Smart Top module which does everything this does except the LED blink and chirp but adds one touch top up and down + remote top up and down. |
