Oil thermostat bypass question (pros & cons)
I know I should've ask this before I already did it. But I just did the oil thermostat by pass & I was wondering if there're any cons to this? As of now I just daily the car, where I live Tempe are usually around 80-90 Fahrenheit.
Here're some pics of my oil temps before & after the by pass. The lower temp is from today with 79F night drive. |

Seems that the cons are it doesn't warm up enough at certain times. Could lead to moisture in the oil and / or damage since water (moisture) isn't good in bearings and such.
Oil should run in a certain range, lower might be better but not necessarily. Will be interesting to hear from others what the "right" temp is (for your daily driving) if it's something other than what the folks who designed the car intended. |
