Latest count?
Has anyone tried to figure out how many 1M's are still around? What with wrecks and hardcore mods.

Hi,
If it's helpful, I was able to calculate the numbers relatively accurately in the UK thanks to our fixed build number (450) and our 'Howmanyleft' platform that tells us how many cars are registered on the road, or SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). In the UK a car must legally be one, or the other. Here's the numbers I worked up, which may be a useful proxy to help you calculate the US number: note: a small number of 1Ms are mislabelled by the DVLA as 135is so don't show up on this chart, but it's a small number From this, a couple of things are clear: 1. The total (Registered + SORN) is shrinking, so they continue to be crashed/written off, lost or exported to other RHD markets. 2. LOTS are being SORNed. That means people are speculating. This is almost certainly the ultra-low mileage / mint / unmodded cars. 3. The number of regularly used ones is shrinking fast. 4. At current trends, in 5 years time, there'll be half as many as now on the roads. Here's my maths: Of the original 450: 93 (or 21%) are dead, exported or lost 126 (or 28%) are locked away by speculators to re-appear for crazy money in the future, or remain in long-term collections as an asset 231 (or 51%) are in use Using those stats, mine is an Alpine white car, of which there were 150 of the 450 originally. If only roughly half are in use then that's 75 cars. So mine in effectively 1/75. In 5 years time that's 1/37. |

What a logical and forward thinking idea to make that information available to the public! It's interesting to see the seasonal trends for winter storage. Here in the states we must first decide who gets to profit from the data before it can be used.
For the US/Canada cars the cheapest way I found to get this info was to buy bulk vehicle reports at around $400 total. I'd be willing to do the parsing/extraction work from the reports, but every time I get motivated to do this project I find something better to spend that cash on. Another possible source is vehicle-in-operation (VIO) data. If anyone happens to be a SEMA member, you can request this data for free but I think it would be much more limited than the full history reports. |

Here's a link to the google doc and the relevant forum posting I'm referring to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...vuo/edit#gid=0 https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=544689 Could be a team effort - we can all go in for the $400, share the reports on a google drive, and split up reports between us to update the registry? |

Have my baby. Wish I can put more miles on her but between work, being a father, and covid, maybe 200 will go on this year if I am lucky.
Good luck figuring out how many there are. I have no idea where to start. |

BMW 1M US/Canada I decided to try this out with just Canada cars since the cost would be lower. It takes a bit of reading tea leaves, and it is only as good as the source data (AutoCheck), but it does reveal some trends. There is one car (VP76133) that was never registered. Maybe this is BMW Canada's museum piece? 29 cars (~13%) have their most recent registration in the United States. 20 cars (~9%) have not been registered in the last 2 years, so those could be exports, salvages, or hiding in collections. Autocheck's accident/salvage information for Canada cars isn't great. I'm guessing it would be better for US cars since 4 of the 29 Canada cars in the US have salvage titles. So around 22% of the sold cars do not appear to be registered for Canadian roads anymore. Not terribly surprising which provinces the remaining cars are in today: ON: 66 BC: 58 QC: 32 AB: 27 SK: 3 MB: 1 NB: 1 NF: 1 NS: 1 |

Your car is listed on the "CAN" tab of the spreadsheet, and is noted as "Salvage Title, Now in USA". The AutoCheck report has a salvage entry on 8/14/2019 from Quebec curiously after the first Florida registration.

Thanks, I didn't see the 2nd tab. being that it's not a salvage title, i'm curious why it's branded that way. I'll have to look into it.

I would be happy to maintain a list and contact info for Canadian Cars in the US. We should have something since Canadian 1M owners don't get recall notices here. I wonder if we can have a subforum Canadian 1Ms in US to deal with specific issues?

Original owner here in Montreal. Picked the bad boy up via Euro Delivery and always gets properly driven during the summers. Now with 60k kms and i threw in a proper seat for 3 days at Calabogie a few weeks ago. Heading to Mosport next week! The track closed cause of lighting for a bit so we took turns playing in the paddock :P
