Style 68

Any track guys running style 68 wheels by chance, and achieved a squared setup?

A square setup with 4x rear Style 68s (17x8.5 +50) would work but require a front spacer (I believe probably around 10-15mm). A better question though is why bother - there are far lighter 17x8.5s for pretty inexpensive and if you could find one with around a +40 offset, would probably work front and rear without any spacers.

I found an estimate of ~10kg for a 17x8.5 Style 68... if that's correct, that's like 22lbs... my ancient histroy D-Force 17x9s which were stupid cheap were 16lbs each. Just food for thought.

To have a different look but you brought up good point when you said there's a lighter option.

My advice would be to spend a little more and run lighter wheels.

I have a square set of style 105s (17x8.5 +50) because I got them for cheap. The downside is that they weigh something like 24lbs.

What type of driving will you be doing? I found 245/40/17 square to not give enough grip in the rear for HPDE...autocross might be a different story

For HPDE you want as much rubber as you can get. Staggered will generally be faster than square on a stock body 135i

At my local track, the fastest setup I've used was staggered 18" apex arc 8s with 245/35 front and 255/35 rear.

I've tweaked my suspension since last season so it's not a great comparison, but last week I was within 1sec of my fastest time and I was running 245/40/17 front and 265/35/18 rear.

My suggestion for you would be to run at least a 245 up front and 265 in the rear. 255F and 275R would be even better.

For wheels, you can't beat the simplicity of the 18" apex arc-8 in 1 series fitment (18x8.5F 18x9.5R).

An alternative would be 17x9 +42. This is not easy to fit in the front (from what I've heard) but not impossible with the right camber and ride height. With a 9" wheel up front you can more easily fit a 255 since it will stretch the sidewalls more than an 8.5" wheel.

I run them and HPDE them. I used a 12mm front spacer until I got coilovers, now i run a 15mm spacer up front, no spacer in rear. I have 245 rs-rr's on them squared. You will need some camber, but if you are tracking you need that anyway. I run -3.0 and have zero rubbing
