Searched but no luck: Exhaust temps in tuned apps?

Deciding on which coating to get on DPs and Mid-pipes... ( I.e. Jet-Hot EXTREME STERLING VS Jet-Hot 2000) Any ideas of what temps modded N54s are putting out at boost?
Thanks!

Well, the DPs get hot enough that the turbos glow in extremely low light. And we do know that catalytic converters work best above 500 to 600 degrees, with outlet temperatures in normal excess of 500 degrees, so I imagine you'd need heat tolerance as high as 1000 degrees.

Why do you want to coat your downpipes? You know its almost impossible to get them installed without banging them up, right?

I think the temps should be higher than that. I had a SC 2.8 L VR6 and was seeing 1300 EGT temps regularly... and that was only 315 HP at the crank... they should be higher no?
And yes I know they get "a litlle" banged up, but it will not flake off, thus 95% of the tubes will remain coated... plus I plan to cover the snails in turbo wrap: the more of the heat that stays in the exhaust system, the faster the gases exit, the less underhood temps, the longer the longevity of the plastic / hoses around the engine, and the less the OEM air box gets heated up....

Anyone with actual numbers?

+1 now I'm curious. Anybody with a lift and an infrared thermometer?

Gas cars will typically run at 1400-1600 deg F depending on the conditions. This is measured in the manifold. At the downpipe which would be approximately 200 degrees F cooler.

If you are going to coat your pipes make sure you actually spend the extra money and coat the inside of the pipe with their TBC coatings.

The N54 is the leanest running gas engine I've ever seen, NA or turbo! Leaner = hotter. So get the good stuff, Jet Hot Extreme or 2000.

That is what I was suspecting, but as you know, JET-HOT 2000 is formulated for very high temperatures. This rugged coating protects substrates up to 2,450°F. Although it can withstand higher temperatures than the STERLING and EXTREME STERLING, it is not as good of an insulator at lower temps. For example, if the \exhaust gas temps are running at 1,300ºF, the EXTREME STERLING will reduce the skin temperatures on the pipes more than the JET-HOT 2000. However, some turbo applications see exhaust temps over the 1,700ºF limit of EXTREME STERLING, so the JET-HOT 2000 will work better for those types of vehicles... Hence my original question. Was trying to figure out which to go with... inside and out of course

I've monitored my exhaust temperatures, and the catalytic converters are always at a steady temperature between 925-975 when cruising, once you punch it it'll rise. I think the highest I've seen it is around 1100. Hope that helps
