One quick clarification: SSTT is $599 unless you get in on the group buy, in which case it's somewhat less.

I adds sound and takes away some weight. Maybe gains 5hp if you are lucky.

Downpipes are the big exhaust mod, particularly if you delete cats.

That is not legal. BMW cannot void your warranty, by law.

However, if something breaks, and they can prove that an aftermarket part did the damage, you have to pay for it.

if you get your car's annual inspection and you have catless down pipes...any issues there?

I would imagine, since the primary o2 sensors are in those cats. You would have to get dummy o2 sensors (not sure about those personally), because your car will probably be throwing check engine lights and it would definitely fail emmisions, since they use the OBDII now in most states.

I would reconsider the downpipe mod as a first mod, since I've heard some pretty crafty engineering went into those. On one of these threads, I believe atr_hugo spoke of how the exhaust moves through the pipes. When one pulse of exhaust is exiting the pipes, it creates a vacuum behind it, which actually draws the subsequent pulse of exhaust behind through the pipes faster. I personally think your money would be better spent on ECM upgrades that really unlock the potential of this engine.
