Do I have a car or not? Your guys' opinions

Hey folks,

I put down a deposit and got some paperwork saying I'd pay European Delivery MSRP and all of that from a dealer, for an October build.

I think the dealer has the best intentions, but I am nervous that I might not have a true allocation, and the dealer just put it in the system assuming he'd get an allocation around then.

Am I being too paranoid? Should I hedge and get on a different dealer's radar? My 3-series lease is up in November, so that's the month I'm shooting for.

Maybe I should just relax and wait till mid July, but I don't want to be caught sleeping on something I should act on.

Thanks guys!

Make sure you have a signed contract.

The dealer should know already how many allocations he will get for certain.

Delivery data could be to soon for the moment since US allocations come on a
monthly base

I guess my fear is the dealer is being optimistic that he will have an allocation there, I have no reason to trust him, bit I also have no reason or proof to believe him. They have said all along that they are getting 4 allocations, but that just seems real high to me, I just worry that July will hit, he won't have a slot for me, and I will get my deposit back and will be further behind in looking for one.

I guess I just gotta trust him and play the waiting game.

I would suggest you get a back up plan and order a vehicle from a large dealership who is more likely than not to get a 1M.
PM if you need some assistance;

Well, my local dealer also put in a req and expects at least one allocation. I have signed off and put a downpayment in.

Odd, though, how he told me October, too. Is that just to keep us all quiet? The other list I am waiting on...also said October.

I also have the October promise with a signed agreement , which I think is in a way a place holder meant to tell us we will get our car but they don't have a specific date from BMW N/A or Germany for that matter.

To the OP, I agree your dealer should know by now how many they should get for the year. Have your CA check with the Regional Rep for your dealer to see how many cars they will receive for the year.

+1. Both dealers were able to confidently tell me that they would get X# allocations, but couldn't guarantee 2 or 3 etc. They were pretty forthcoming with the information.

This dealer is in a fairly large city in the south and is convinced he is getting four allocations. I commented how I thought that was very high, but his reply was that they sell a whole lot of M's is why.

I am just nervous, and feel like I should be more proactive. But there doesn't seem to be much else I can do.

The problem is that most Allocations in the US have a waiting line for them. There have been a very small number of people back out of their cars allowing the dealer to have one on the lot for sale.

The other issue is several dealers have gone back on orders without signed agreements and are now asking $5 - $10 over MSRP. This happened to me at my second choice dealer.

You could always call around to other dealers both in your area and out to see what's available but don't be to surprised if you come up with nothing or a dealer who want's too much $$$.
