I would love to go to 245/40 R17 on all 4 corners, IF there won't be rubbing. However, I have read some members here saying that such a setup may rub.......I'm just not sure myself. If people can re-assure me that 245's all around will work, I will switch to that size next year.

Using Hawk HP Plus brake pads along with the BMW Performance front rotors has worked really well for me this past season. Great bite/stopping power, and doesn't wear as fast as the stock pads.

Ah, well there are a few tricks to it...look directly at the bonnet...it's so shiny that it picks the clouds up, and when you go around a corner it gives a weird, almost gyro-stabilized effect...of course, it helps a bit if you add some Merlot to the mix ;-)

First post here.

Looking at a 135i to replace my Boxster this Sat. I do 15-20 track days a year and am considering running a square setup on the 135i.

Want to go for 17'' X 8.5'' (width), Offset: 40mm and dress them with either 245/45/17 or 255/40/17 R-comps all around.

Why 17's? Tires are cheaper, have worked really well for me in the past and fit the trunk better with the seats folded.

Any comments on my wheel/tire setup. Do these clear the fenders, etc?

Do square setups work well with the 135s (assuming proper suspension)? Any reason to go staggered?

All the best,
Gus
Im running what I think is one of the best square setups for our cars, stock suspension: 225x45-17 on 17 x 7.5" rims with 40 or 42 mm offsets..

Just my .02 on my tracking the 135 with various set-ups.

1- 17x8 BBS RK square set up with 245 BFG R1s or 245 Star Specs had to have camber plates in the front to get enough space for the fronts. No rolling of fenders, otherwise stock suspension at the time....Worked just fine with both tires. Very neutral and largely eliminated the understeer.

2- Added KW V3s for adjustability....First- Apex ARC-8 18x8.5F 18x9.5R with 245 BFG R1s front and rear. No rubbing, great traction, very neutral. Second..same wheels 255/35 Starspecs in front, 275/35 Star Specs in rear. Had to use 3mm front spacer and set front ride height about 1/2" higher to avoid rub on the fender. More understeer, close to3 seconds a lap slower than the smaller R1s. Would have likely done better with a 255 square, but did not try it. (went back to R1 set up since with all smiles).

3- Have 19x8 and 19x9 Advan RZs with Yoko AD08 in 235/35/19 sqare set up for daily driving. It was freezing cold at the track this past weekend and could not get any heat into the R1s. Ran seven sessions on the 235 AD08s with very good results. About 1.5 seconds a lap off the R1s (on a typical warm day), neutral handling. I'll be using these for running in the very cold mornings or in the wet.

With my mods I'm putting down about 350rwhp and can get pleanty of power down with smooth inputs. Jam on the gas coming out of the turn and you will break the rear loose with any of these....I've found that improving the driver is the best mod you can make. I asked an instructor who runs a stock E92M3 to take me out in my car for a session to get some feedback on the car's set-up. With the AD08s noted above, he beat my best lap time (with the R1s at an earlier event) by 2.5 seconds on his third lap. Made me even further appreciate the car's potential. It was the first 135i he had driven and was very complimentary of the handling and very predictable driving experience.

Were your tires 245/40 R17? And how many degrees of -ve camber did you have to ensure no rubbing in the front with that tire size?

LA-Bim, Any track events planned with AD08s, 245/??/17 and KWs? What is the profile of the tire? I am more interested in this setup for daily driving, track and 225/17 winter set up. My stock wheels/RFT set would be relegated to highway trips.

Can you comment on the different final drive ratios affect on track time differences?

Any thought on 8 or 8.5 wheel widths? I would be using 17s for both track and winter.

this thread seem to show some people running 245 square setup on 40 et offsets. it was a very helpful thread in which everyone listed their wheel size, offsets, camber, tire size and any spacers. you should check it out. it's a long thread so you may have to go through some pages to find your particular parameters

Yes, 245/40/17s. -1.8 in the front cleared fine with the stock ride height and the camber plates. When I dropped it with the KW V3s about an inch I needed -2.1 not to rub on compression.

I've since sold the 17" set up and never ran AD08s on those, but they are a really nice tire. I personally would still stick with Dunlop Star Specs, but they don't make them in a 19" tire. If you're running a 17" set up, you'll likely need to stick with a 40 series profile.
