Discolored paint
Hello All,
As the title states, I have brown discoloration on the roof and hood of my AW 135i. I am the second owner of this car, and I believe the previous owner had a cheap wrap on the hood and roof that was improperly removed. The discoloration was not there when I bough the car and it has been slowly getting darker. I took it to a detail place and they told me that the paint would need to be sanded and repainted. Is there anything I could try before I do this? If I do need to repaint should I go through a BMW dealer? What would this run? Thank you for any help! |

I'll try and get you a picture today.
The car has been clayed and waxed to no avail. The detailer was the one who recommended the sanding and painting. I believe he tried clay and then a wet sand. Right now I have an appointment to see a certified BMW collision/paint shop for an estimate. I don't really trust a Maaco paint job to last/match, but I am worried about getting ripped off on the painting. Thanks for the help. |

No, just the area where I believe that the wrap was applied. The roof has a sort of checked patter in light brown and the hood has more of a large splotch with dots of brown around the area in a random pattern.
The rest of the vehicle is free of these stains. Unfortunately the camera on my phone is not working so I cant take a picture of it right now. |

Here are some pics. The car is dirty, but you can make out the stains.
Hood - The paint seems to be cracking and lifting as well. Roof - You can see the line by the window where the browning stops. |

Yikes.
Since it's been clayed to no avail, then something in the wrap/film must've permeated the clearcoat... And maybe the paint layer as well... Not good.

Yeah, that's what it looks like. It seems that I am out of luck. Let this be a warning to people who get the crap wraps.
I found someone selling an AW hood so that solves one problem. |
