Convenience Package and Delayed Release
I am interested in the convenience package and i'm curious about the delayed release paint colors too....
Anyone know when the colors and convenience package (keyless start, etc) will be showing up in the US? Thanks! |

The BMW e90 brochure says the comfort access system will be available Sept. 05. It just says that Sonora, Barrique Red (kind of a root beer color), and Deep Green colors are 'delayed.' I've seen Sonora and Barrique on other models in the dealers lot and if you want you can probably see them too, just not on the same car.

Athos,
Which model have you seen Barrique Red on? I wasn't able to find any model on the BMW website that had that color listed as an option. The E90 PDF that has been circulating recently has Barrique Red listed as a "dark red". |

I saw this at Stevens Creek BMW in Santa Clara, CA. I think it was on a current 5-series. It was reddish but it has a lot of brown in it. There is also a picture of this color in the e90 brochure/booklet.

Athos,
Try as i might, i'm not seeing any mention of the arrival date for the delayed release Convenience Access System in my "3" brochure. What page do you see it on? Also, there are a total of 4 delayed release colors: the one you omit is a lighter blue (ultramarine). |

UltraMarine Blue is apparently being nixed for Mystic BLue. Another lame BMW color decision. "Let's have 2 darker blues instead one dark and one middle blue". It's almost as bad as the orange "Terra " leather instead of the very rich Truffle Brown (X5). I assume BMW is saving the really great colors for subsequent model years......sales down this quarter????...better offer Interlagos Blue and lemon leather....or something like that...you get the picture.

Gantra, It's on page 068. I have been given two different brochures. One is about 6 x 9 inches that I picked up today. The other is like a magazine and about 9 x 11 and perfect bound and much more informative. The reference I spoke of is in the latter. The ultramarine color is in the smaller brochure but not the larger, so maybe that is the one you have. |

Just a note, these features are available for September 2005 production. Meaning its not likely you'll be able to take *delivery* of a car so equipped no earlier than sometime in October.

I had originally planned on getting comfort access. I wanted a delivery date of late August to early September. If I had a car built the very first day of September, I probably wouldn't see it until October at the earliest.
I had to decide if the option (and the extra $500) was worth waiting even longer, so I passed on this option. Putting the remote in the slot really wasn't that much of an inconvenience (I prefer this to the traditional key). In a year or 2 my wife wants to get the new Lexus GS (they should have an upgraded V6 by then). At least one of our cars will have this feature.

Install later at dealer?
Does anyone know if this is an option that the dealer could install once it's released? Then we could buy now and upgrade later.
My buddy did something like this with his 4Runner. He couldn't find one with the homelink option (~$300), so he bought without, then ordered the parts from Toyota (~$150) and installed it himself in 5 minutes. MC |

mc68386, I too hope the Comfort Access can be retrofitted like you mentioned. However, I have a gut feeling that it won't be, and if it is possible, it won't be an easy or cheap install. You have to remember this is much more complicated than a garage door opener.

re: comfort access
Talked to my SC yesterday re: comfort access. States he would be surprised if it was available before the end of this year and was relatively certain it could not be added to already produced vehicles.
