BMW Hates DINAN AND RISS RACING

I have had a never ending problem with my fuel pump in my car. I have a DINAN stage 2 tune and since I had the tune it brought out the problem with the fuel pump. At high RPM in High gears the car does not get enough fuel and cuts out. I brought the car to Hudson Valley BMW and they were such morons I took my car from them unfixed. Well I thought that Greenwich BMW would be a good choice since they were a DINAN dealer. I was wrong they saw the Riss Racing oil catch can and decided that my car was modded and that it was not a fuel pump problem and that I should take the car back to Motor Werks West and have them fix the car. Well I just got off the phone with Motor Werks West and they say I am right it is the fuel pump and nothing wrong with the software. And that they are in touch with DINAN to get Greenwich BMW to do the work. I will let you all know but I am pissed

Agreed. Remove all aftermarket engine mods before you take it into ANY BMW dealer. Whether the car had Dinan or not, they would still turn it away for the RR Can

i would like to hear the reasoning behind a catch can causing the car to cut off... usually every dealership has a technician that appreciates modded cars and can assist in certain warranty situations... i guess if i buy a 135i i should check to see if Brian Harris or Peake has one of these guys and buy him lunch...

There's nothing wrong with the RR Catch Can. Many dealers will turn it away regardless of whether or not it is directly related to the problem. When I was a customer, I was refused headlamp warranty because I had Angel Eyes.

Take it from me who's been on both sides of the table, it's a pain in the ass, but remove all mods done to the engine (other than cosmetics such as strut braces) before you take it in for engine work.

Also, as an FYI, technicians have no say on whether a vehicle receives it's BMW Factory warranty, it's the Service Advisor's job.

That is why we made the OCC simple to remove. We have many people that have no issues with the dealers. But some dealers do have a problem with the mods. It all depends on where you take your car. The part that annoys me is that the OCC is protecting the motor. However they still make a stink of it? :iono:

If you need help I can put a tech on the phone to walk u thru the uninstall. To make sure you don't make any mistakes. With a tech and the DIY should take no more than 30 min to uninstall

No Motor Werks West has been great, in is Greenwich BMW that is the problem. I am taking the car back to Greenwich tomorrow, DINAN called them and took care of the problem, so I am told. We will see and I will tell you what happens.

it's up to neither of them if the vehicle recieves a warranty claim.. in fact it's ultimatly up to BMW direct (sometimes in the form of a BMW warranty rep)..

my point is that a technician who is intelligent enough to understand what the hell a catch can does, can eliminate the whole confrontation and an unsatisfactory survey by simply telling the service advisor the obvious solution... thus exponentially resulting in BMW service centers appealing to the "tuner" crowd...

have a nice day parts guy

they can't refuse you work, they need to prove the moddification is causing the problem.

The dealership was so full of it, I have 19" BMW rims on my car and there is something loose in the front end. It is maybe a ball joint or something is loose. Well when I get there to pick up my car, on my slip it says. None BMW suspension in car noises are due to none stock rims hitting fenders. I could not believe what I read, I made them take it off because I would not sign the paper. I would not even take the car back there but DINAN called and set up the appointment. But I am going to make them fix the front end now when I bring the car back. I could not believe they gave me shit for the catch can, I never would have thought they would have given me a problem for that. The part is not a performacne mod, it is so that oil does not get into my intercooler you would think BMW would not be against me trying to keep my engine running well.

We had an issue with one of my techs before BMW dealers knew about the fuel pump issues. Trying to say that since we had a 19in rims that the rotation of the wheel was throwing off the fuel pump :iono: :iono: :iono: This is about the time I couldnt hold back the tears I was laughing so hard. Needless to say that SA had a hard time not covering the fuel pump after that comment.

Being educated helps a lot when dealing with these dealers. Make sure you know your facts there are plenty on this forum, and the sticky that shows your warranty info. Bring things like this up to show they arn't dealing with some guy that can just roll over.

Damn Johnny, can't believe your still having these issues still. That's why I didn't go with the idiots at Hudson valley BMW. I got mine up at Harriman. Hopefully you'll get on the road soon again and I can see how fast your car is at stage 2 dinan (just got my jb1 but I still gotta wait for break in).

What a joke, they shouldn't be able to refuse. Mods that don't relate to the problem are a non issue according to the law. If only you were a lawyer, you could charge them for your time they wasted and the frustration they brought into your life.

There's thread somewhere, might be on E90post.com, that explains in detail what rights you have regarding mods and warranty, read it and use the knowledge to your advantage.

Good luck

The service advisor makes the first call. If it is questionable, the foreman gets involved. If it still raises an eyebrow, BMW gets involved.

Yes, a tech can see whether or not an aftermarket part can possibly deny the claim from a BMW Part, but it is not his decision at all. That is my point. Have a nice day

I put a sticky with the NHTSA site to register complaints regarding the HPFP at the top of this forum.
