Why do runflats RUN FLAT more than regular tires?
All I've heard from everybody about runflats is that you get more flat tires.
I have friends who said avoid runflats on the Toyota Sienna, the Mini Cooper S, and now the 128/135i Why would this technology fail more often than a regular sidewalled tire? William |

The major problem with runflats is there is almost no give in the sidewall so if you get a flat the sidewall remains stiff enough to drive on.
While in theory this is brilliant, the tires is a major component for dampening the shock to the the wheels and suspension. This means that going over hard bumps with runflats can burst the tire or break the wheel much easier, and makes the suspension work much more to compensate for the stiff tires. |

Absolutely right. In retrospect, I think my incident wouldn't have happened with regular tires. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13859 |

I just got a screw through the edge of the tread in mine. Too close to the edge to patch. Great, another $300, and since it is such an oddball size, the car is down for a week. Great technology, this run flat tire.
Give me real tires, a jack and a spare, please. |
