New next gen 1-series hatchback impression
As featured on 1addicts Homepage.
from insider Scott27: Auto Zeitung has done a render of the next 1er which is minus a few details the direction being taken for the hatch. As you can see here the strong line that begins from the rear headlamps and widens as it gets past the front doors on the actual car the line goes to the front and cuts of the headlights like a lid the design trait is classic BMW , evident on the 2002 it is a modern interpretation of the classic bathtub or boat look line. The scupture at the base of the side flanks is a variation on todays boat like design line - although less rounded on the next generation of 1er this interpretation takes the lead from the X1 and begins from the roof , flowing around the rear hoffmeister quarter light , allowing the rear wheel arch and sharply cut into the flanks ending at the front of the front wheel arch. BMW now that they look upon the 1er Sporthatch feel that they neglected the chance to produce a Golf GTi Rival with the current car , instead of using the same engines and specifications as the current 5dr. For the next generation of 1er Sporthatch , BMW will tap into the hot hatch market with a Sporthatch "Supersport" model. |

wow, really like that, if they had that over here with an updated version of the current N47S turbodiesel as a 123d or 125d I'd buy it in a heartbeat,
it's also interesting to see, based on how basic the BMW headlamp layout was for so many years, how fast the shape is evolving and being sculpted starting with the Bangle 7 and the e46 facelifted coupe/conv

This looks great...tho Im not a fan of the hood strakes that BMW has been doing lately (looks to much like Chrysler hoods). But yes a TII/BMW Performance version would be great. As would a diesel in the US. As would all wheel drive.

I agree. Nice looking...and if priced in the high $20k range with a straight six, I'd buy one.
This is nice product development, as opposed to the GT garb we've been seeing. |

I dont know... the thread posted pic has a hugely disproportionate front end in comparison to the sides of the car. It looks like it was photo-shopped from a new Z4 face. As stated in earlier posts, the new 1 series does look much wider. Knowing BMW, by the time this hits the sales floor, I'm sure it will look sweet... I hope. I like the current 1 series front end. (Maybe I'm just biased) okay, I'm not crazy about the "orange" blinker lights in the front. Too bad we dont get the euro version of the headlights.

There's something strange in this picture. I don't really like this mixture that Autozeitung pretend to be the next 1. By now I am living in Munich/Germany and all the magazines here come often with such pictures of future models. Well I can say that I have written and seen a lot stuff here, but all these are pure speculations on photoshop. I never seen so far they guess the look of a future model. But know one knows, maybe this time they could have guessed.... time will show.

My TDi is 2000 1.9 Golf, 90hp and 156 torque.. 139k miles and going strong... Drove once to Florida from NJ (1300 miles), 1 fill up on the way @ 600 miles... 50mpg was nice.. The car is light on its feet, I think my TDi is around 2900lb.. New Tdis are 140hp/250 torque and Europeans are lucky and get GTD diesel (170 hp/258 torque and GTI suspension bits and other goodies, reviewed here: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=150687)
I am amazed at the new diesel BMW announced today, new and improved 3.0TT: now matching 306hp of 335 and now with 17 more lb/ft torque, total 442. Being 4-9 percent more efficient that current TT diesel (The fuel injection system upgraded to BMW's latest gen common rail system). ( http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/06/23...cientdynamics/ ) BMW should bring same updates to 123d and bring hatch/shooting brake to US. |
