I remember reading somewhere on this forum that there will be an update to make the clown nose flash even without the alarm. I am going back to the dealer tomorrow to get some things checked out and I'll be sure to ask them about it.

Which I think BMW totally had their head up their arse on this one. Think about it...if someone is experienced in breaking into cars (especially BMWs) the first thing they'll see is the clown nose isn't blinking and viola! The car has no alarm or simply isn't armed.

That's why the alarm (and floormats) should be standard.

Audible car alarms are useless gizmos designed to (like radar detectors) provide a false sense of security while sucking money out of your pocket.

So let's say your sleeping and your car alarm goes off. What are you going to do? Are you gonna become an instant Navy SEAL and go and confront the car theiving thug who is in the process of breaking into your car? Will there be an epic battle as you fight the theiving scum? Can you throw a Tiger Uppercut?

No.

Look, you cannot steel a BMW without towing it away, so the worst thing someone is gonna do to your car is break a window and take whatever is inside. Your car alarm isn't goint to do dick about it- nobody around your car is going to care about the noise because false alarms are common and by the time YOU get there, Mr Tiger Uppercut Navy SEAL, the bad guy is gonna be long gone.

Save your money, go to a driving school. Or get 30% tint on your front window. Something else... Anything.

ditto, alarms do jack. if it doesnt come standard i wouldnt buy it either. my best friend got his car broken into at our gym parking lot and his alarm went off no one did anything, the cops did even less and get this..the gym had a SECURITY CAMERA on his car the entire time and the cops still did shit, they saw the guys that did it and the car they drove off in.

if someone REALLY wanted to steal the car, it would be done.

They had to rush back to more important tasks, like writing speeding tickets for someone going 64 in a 60 mph zone.
( these are the issues that REALLY effect our quality of life)

I got the alarm to convince the amature car thieves to go to the next car. Nothing is going to stop a professional. The audible confirmation for locking and unlocking is nice. I also get an insurance discount.

It cost me $499 with installation.

wouldnt you get an insurance discount with BMW assist in the first place? your signature shows you got the premium package, so you have assist.

As far as my insurance company was concerned, you don't get a higher discount for getting an audible alarm-it already has other anti-theft deterrent devices installed that give it a discount.

My insurance company gives a discount for alarm systems. I told them I had one when I bought the car (I thought I did). Oh well, no need to bother them now.

BTW, I like the new sig Nikki, big improvement.
