Although I'm pretty your buddy's parents/friends/spouse will be the first one to disagree with your statement if you crashed the car by doing 110 in a 35 road, and your buddy die in the accident. The speed limit is meant to protect EVERYONE, including yourself and your passenger!!! Drive safe! |

Just go to court and plead guilty for a reduced penalty and definately hire a lawyer-you will never win if you try to fight the ticket.
In the US, traffic tickets are based on revenue. The town wants your money; they don't care about the points or what the acutal infraction is at all. If you get a lawyer, the judge will give you a minimal point penalty and a gigantic fine/processing/court fee. And, oh yeah, you may have to listen to a speech by the judge about what a big favor he is doing you. One more thing to check out: some states don't bother to inform your state about points. If they aren't just mail your check in and be done with it. |

here in cali, anything over 30 mph speed limit you get charge as a misdimeanor and get your car impound. so even if he said you were doing 85 mph you wil still get busted. so you are lucky.

Only a fool pleads not guilty to something he did. Its funny how people think they are experts on what the judge will do or how radar works.
So when you spotted him....... and most likely hammered the brakes, is it possible you had actually slowed to 85 by the time he saw you and switched the radar on from standby mode? And to the guy that said radar doesnt work on curvy roads......wrong....especially if the officer was parked. Its called the cosine effect, its always in your favor. In my 10 years I have never seen an officer lose a traffic ticket case involving radar, regardless of what the defendant or his lawyer said. Even if it comes down to your word against his, you'll lose every time.

Shut up.
Hire a lawyer. Continue shutting up. Your success in court will be in proportion to the amount of money spent on the lawyer. Stay shut up. |

On Tuesday, my lawyer is going to try to get me out of a number of tickets that were issued in December of 2003. Hopefully, I'll get the offenses 'merged' into a single ticket. But going for almost two years & not having to deal with it kind of took some of the pressure off. |

No point fighting it, you're going to lose if the cop shows up. He said 85 because any higher he'll need to file a bunch of other reports for reckless driving and license suspension. It is a lot less work for the cop if he just get you for a few thousand dollars worth of tickets. You should just go to court and plead guilty and just plain and simple, tell the judge you can't afford the ticket and ask for htem to reduce the charge. Most likely they will. My friend ran into the same thing. He was going 110 down 5 south and got pulled over around modesto area. The said he got him going 95, gave him a ticket that ended up to be $4000. He went to court at modesto all the way from LA and ask them to reduce the price, they dropped it to $600 and a 2 point ticket. Dumb thing is on the way to court he got another ticket, hahahaha.

Why would you plead guilty in court if the cop doesn't show up?
I went with my dad a couple of months ago... for a $375 speeding ticket....and the cop didn't show up...and he got his money back, plus, the ticket was off his record! You have nothing to lose.....if the cop show up...just ask for traffic school and pay the damn fine!

The funny thing about lawyers is this......they will tell you that you have a great case and "almost guarantee" that you'll get off....but they are just in it for the money. Never lost against an attorney either.

Wow, you're super lucky... in washington, here's how that situation would have gone:
Cop on the loud speaker: "roll down your window, and throw your keys out of your car... slowly open your door and lay face down on the ground." Then the cop would have proceeded to ram his knee into your back as he cuffed you and thrown you into the back of his squad car.
