iroll's dyno thread
So i finally got my baseline today, Keep in mind, this is in 90+ degree weather and it also is with my Injen intake, as well as my 135i axleback. This is a dynojet dyno and i will be using it for all future dyno's to keep things consistent. I have both SAE corrections and standard, i can get others should anybody request it though i think these will cover all bases. This thread will be updated once i get my manifold and tune, and then again when i get my headers eventually. As you can tell the second run is much less smooth than the other two, it was right after the first run while the motor was hot. It was turned off and let to cool for the third run, when it made the most power.
***edit: forgot to mention, hood was popped open for STANDARD SAE SECOND SET OF DYNO RUNS So got my dyno's done today. The manifold and AA tune are worth about 18HP and 10ft/lbs. SAE CORRECTION(i personally don't care for this after being educated by the dyno guys) STD CORRECTION End result: 3 stage manifold swap, Stock collector design but catless, and AA stage 3 offroad tune. STD correction SAE correction

Thanks
It seems like, depending on your correction from rear wheel to flywheel horsepower, you either confirm BMW's 230hp rating (15%) or make it a little conservative (17%). Either way your car seems to be running fine but there is no obvious benefit of your intake or exhaust. I'm not saying it isn't there, but it can't be real big and still be at about stock numbers.

I don't think your open intake likes the 90+ degree weather. I'd chalk the stock numbers up to that, especially as you let the car cool off to achieve it's highest numbers. The only direction from here is up, can't wait for your results!

yep, the intake heat soaks like crazy but boy it sure does sound good, so i'll live with it. Plus the extra engine bay room is nice. I have my AA simon tool sitting on my desk infront of me, now where's my damn manifold? haha
edit: stupid freakin monkeys from the place i ordered the manifold from broke manifold #1, now i just called them and asked about my manifold and they said they broke #2, naturally now they're on back order. great freakin job guys.

As I've been saying all along, intake and muffler aren't worth anything beyond sound.

I never disagree'd. I never noticed a difference between any of my exhaust/intake setups other than the sound. and the sound alone makes it worth it (to me).

What good is a performance car IF you can't hear it? The two things I do on my car are exhaust and intake! Nothing sound like a inline 6 sucking air and expelling it with a roar. Sure their are faster cars, a 135i for one, but I like the sound and it is my car. To hell with the performance bring on the sound! Besides, if I want to go very fast, I hop on my Suzuki GSX. Very few cars keep up with it!

Oh, I can definitely hear it..
I would also love to see the same run in the 60's with no humidity..It really doesn't matter, but it's good for the soul.. That sounds friggin amazing... Congrats.. |

ah ha. Nice. I am so glad there is someone else doing a baseline before mods. I'd really like to see where it goes from here. I am sure you will be falling in love with your car all over again.

Thanks guys! In an ideal world i would have liked to get this done in the fall once the air cools down and there's less humidity, but alas i am impatient. Many thanks to Andrew from active autowerke, who is providing me with a my stock tune, a stage 2 tune for non manifold that i can use in the mean time, and a stage 3 disa tune that i will load on as soon as i get the manifold installed. I'm aiming to have the tune installed later today, although i won't be dynoing it by itself, i won't dyno again until i have the manifold and the tune combined.

Should stick with SAE alone. The STD is kind of meaningless if comparing dynos from different days, especially if spread out over a longish period.
Should be a fun thread as more data comes in. So far, looks like stock power, as stated and expected!

Im hoping with colder temperatures (70s or so) and a mild tune that would increase a good 10/15 horses...Ill stay optimistic....on a side note what 135i axle back are you running

Well i have the AA stage 2 on for now, until my manifold comes in, and its actually quite noticeable. Nothing major, just a bit faster all around, same power feeling, no weird dips or anything in the powerband. Though i did notice theres a bunch more low end torque, i dont have to fiddle with the clutch as much anymore in parking lots.
edit: Its off a 2012 n55 msport 135i.

not to thread jack but I don't think i ever posted a video of my dyno so might as well put it here. Also pairs nicely since you have a back shot and I only have a front shot and we both have the injen intake and exhaust xD.

NICE!!! Greenkirby21 you are my hero! That and our cars are exact match! Diving a car is better when you can add sound with the driving. Uncorking the sweet sound of the inline 6 going up the RPM scale is better that sex! OK not that good but damn close! Driving a fast car with no sound is just that, fast. But driving a fast car with the intake and exhaust letting you know you are on it, well that is exciting!

I saw your dyno and its identical like you said. intake+exhaust really do nothing but sound on our cars. But i'm still happy i did it because it sounds great. I have the AA tune on now without the manifold. its definitely a bump in power, nothing ridiculous but noticeable. I'm waiting an eternity for a manifold because they broke two that were supposed to be shipped to me and now they have to find one.

Giant setback because George at bavarian auto recycling straight up sucks. basically waited 5 weeks, never got a manifold and canceled my order. So once i get my refund i'll be on the search for another manifold. if anybody would be so kind to help, i can get this dyno rolling along a lot faster! I'm willing to pay up to 500 for the manifold including the disa motors. I already have the new intake manifold gaskets, 3 new nuts, and 4 new bolts/studs ready to go for the install, as well as my AA stage 3 loaded up on the controller ready to go. I wanna get this done but i'm either retarded or can't find the right manifold for what i want to pay.
