N55 pops and bangs map
Hey dudes
I have an 11 reg N55 Manual and want some more pops and bangs out of it. I already have a BM PE exhaust. Any one know of a map that can do this? Cheers Henri |

Ummm... have you ever heard of MHD? As far as I'm aware that's the only aftermarket product that gives you the power to activate shotgun blast exhaust mode. 🤣

Never hear of MHD is it any good? I've been offered a MAP that will give me 59hp increase and 120nm of torque plus pops and bangs. any idea if this is a bad idea on my engine? its done 96,000 and I'm worried mapping may push it over the edge?
I have just had the clutch and flywheel replaced. |

Tuning on these cars is extremely common and if done by a reputable tuner is not significantly more dangerous for your engine than the stock map. Many tuning platforms exist for the N55 including MHD, JB4, Cobb, etc. MHD is currently one of the most popular because of its price and ease of use. Just buy the correct cable, download the app, buy the tune you want, and flash the new map. It includes several user-selectable features including exhaust burble intensity and duration. Here's a thread with a TON of information on MHD if you're interested. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1318862
In the end, you have to decide what is best for you and what risk you're willing to take on your car.

FWIW, the BMW Performance Power Kit (PPK) also provides pops and bangs - but will be a bit more costly than the MHD (IIRC). The good thing about the PPK is it is BMW 'approved'. ; -)

Not sure how to explain it, but the burbles and pops from MHD are more repetitive/predictable, where the PPK feels a bit more spontaneous. I've played with the settings on MHD to try to replicate the way PPK pops and bangs occur, but I don't feel like it's quite the same. Overall a small difference between the two, but my car is adult driven so I don't hear them too often anyways

Well having had my geezer card for some time now I still evoke the 'snap, crackle, and pops' as often as possible. Once had a cop ask me to roll down the window (when I had a Roush Stage 3 Mustang for a couple of days) and he looked at me and said, "You're old enough to know better." I nodded politely and then, when he was beyond sight, I started laughing. Age has nothing to do with maturity - I'm proof positive. ; -) |
